Winner of game three grabs edge in NBA Finals
June 3rd 2011 23:36
After it appeared Miami was going to grab a 2-0 series advantage, everything changed. Dallas won game two, 95-93 to tie the NBA Finals up at one game apiece. Game three is set for Sunday in Dallas where the next three games will be held.
Miami was ahead 88-73 after Dwayne Wade connected on a three-pointer at the 7:37 mark of the fourth quarter. Then Dallas began chipping at this margin, first with Jason Terry connecting on a jumper. Terry scored the next four points and suddenly Dallas was down just nine. A Shawn Marion layup made the margin seven points. Then Jason Kidd connected on a three-pointer and the lead was six after Lebron James hit two free-throws. Two more field goals by Dirk Nowitzki and suddenly we had a tie at 90 points.
After a miss by Wade, Dallas got the ball back. Nowitzki swished a contested three-pointer to give Dallas a three-point lead. Then Mario Chalmers hit a wide-open three-pointer to tie the game up at 93, ending Miami's seven minutes without a field goal. Dallas had one last shot at winning the game in regulation. Kidd worked teh ball around to Nowitzki who drove on Chris Bosh. Miami with a foul to give, elected not to take it and Nowitzki made them pay with a basket to give Dallas the lead. Miami was without timeouts and had only three seconds to work with, alas another missed three-pointer from Wade.
Dallas was the hungrier team in game two, even before their comeback they appeared to be the better team. Nowitzki scored only 24 points with most of these coming in the fourth quarter. Terry had just 16 points, again with most of them during the Mavericks comeback. Marion was another bright spot with 20 points. Miami grew complacent with the lead in the end. No Maverick could stop Wade for most of the game as the guard scored 36 points. James added 20 points and Mike Bibby was a bright spot with 14 points. Though nobody could score during a pivotal stretch in the game.
I look for things to continue like this in game three. Dallas with the home-town fans behind them will grab a 2-1 series lead. Look for the Mavericks shooters to begin once again connecting from three-point range as they did Thursday's fourth quarter. James will lead Miami in scoring as Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle and assistant coach Dwayne Casey will devise a plan to slow Wade. Bosh who is using too much energy in slowing Nowitzki on the defensive side will continue to struggle offensively.
