Williams to New Jersey
February 24th 2011 00:26
The New Jersey Nets and Utah Jazz, decided to swap point-guards on Wednesday. Utah receives Devin Harris and power forward Derrick Favors, while the Nets get Deron Williams. The Jazz also get the Nets 2011 first-round pick and rights to Golden State's 2012 first-round pick plus cash considerations.
New Jersey wanted to make a statement with the new owner and Avery Johnson as head coach. Getting Williams is this statement. After failure to land Carmelo Anthony, this deal does little for the Nets. Utah didn't want Williams to leave and not get anything in return, now they get Harris and Favors, two promising players. Plus, two likely lottery picks, this deal is great for the Jazz. Favors is averaging six points, and five rebounds in small duty, but has a huge upside. Harris is getting 15-points and eight-assists, while Williams goes for 21-points and 10-assists.
Other small deals which happened today on the eve of the trade-deadline.
Sacramento Kings forward Carl Landry to New Orleans Hornets for Marcus Thornton and cash considerations. Landry bulks up the Hornets frontcourt, while Thornton is known to score points in a hurry. Landry is averaging 12-points and nine-rebounds per game and Thornton is scoring eight-points in small doses this year.
New Jersey sent Troy Murphy to Golden State for Brendan Wright, Dan Gadzuric, and a second-round pick. Golden State is expected to buy out Murphy's contract. The Nets have wanted to move Murphy and his big salary for a while, and finally got a worthy deal.
Chicago traded guard James Johnson to Toronto for the rights to a first-round pick, the Raptors got from Miami. This move frees up cap space for the Bulls to get guard Anthony Parker from Cleveland or Courtney Lee from Houston. The Bulls are expected to make one or more deals before tomorrow's deadline.

If the Chicago does make a move the East is going to be alot of fun come playoff time with Boston, Orlando, Miami, Chicago, being the top teams. I really hope Philly and Indiana get in since they can cause concern for alot of teams. Indiana has really improved on offense since the coaching change while Philly has played great defense this season so far. Who knows what NY will look like now with Melo they could turn out to be dangerous also.
No matter what the NBA is going to be great the last month and half this season until playoffs with all these teams wanting to make sure they get in.
