Utah State and St. Marys preview

The lone game Saturday with two ranked teams is none other then Utah State and St. Mary's. Utah State at 24th enter the marquee game of the bracketbusters with 24 wins and three losses. St. Marys are one spot ahead of the Aggies at 23, and have 22 wins and five losses.
The Gaels of St. Marys win by outscoring their opponents. St. Marys average 80 points per game, 12th in the nation. St. Marys shoots almost 50% per game, 4th in the country. Holding the Gaels below 70 points will get you the victory. BYU, San Diego State, Vanderbilt, Portland, and San Diego, all have held the Gaels below 70 points and earned the win.
Mickey McConnell leads the Gaels 17 points and six assists per game. Junior forward Rob Jones chips in with 14 points and seven boards. Making the Gaels rely more on McConnell then others is not a good sign for them. St. Marys is best when they share the wealth on the offensive side.
Two of Utah State's losses were respectable with BYU and Georgetown. The other loss came to Idaho. The Vandals beat Utah State, 64-56 on February 9th. Utah State was ranked 17th at the time. Looking at this game closer, two stats jump out at you. Utah State's shooting percentage of 33%, and 5-28 from 3-point land. The Georgetown loss was more of the same. Not being able to hit the close shots, costing the Aggies a chance at an upset.
Tai Wesley paces the Aggies with 14 points and seven rebounds. Guard Bryan Green adds 11 points. The Aggies have great balance when looking at the roster. Different guys pick up the slack on any given night.
This game comes down to what St. Marys team shows up. Utah State will look to keep the Gaels below that 70-point mark, while St. Mary needs to score. The loss to Idaho was an aberration for how the Aggies have played this season. They pull of a big win on Saturday, after shutting McConnell down.
