Update on former head coaches
January 19th 2011 00:04
Two guys fired during the regular season, Mike Singletary and Josh McDaniels, have found new homes for next year. Other coaches are about to sign deals, or already were moved up to a new job.
Singletary signed a deal to be part of new coach Leslie Frazier's staff at Minnesota as the linebackers coach/ assistant head coach. After failing as the head coach at San Francisco, this will be more of his style. Though with the quarterback situation at San Francisco, who could win? Going to be a rough job for new coach Jim Harbaugh. Singletary went 18-22 while coach at the NFC West team who were expected to win their respective division. Instead the team struggled to an 5-10 mark before he got fired. Joining Minnesota, will reunite Singletary with former Chicago Bears teammate Frazier.
Daniels joined St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnulo's staff as the new offensive coordinator. He will look to keep up quarterback Sam Bradford's development as a new star in the quarterback field. McDaniels was fired December sixth as the Denver Bronco's coach. Now he will take on a job a little more suited to his talents, coaching offense.
Oakland Raiders hired offensive coordinator Hue Jackson as the new head coach. Jackson will take over for former coach Tom Cable, whose option was not picked up, despite taking the Raiders to an 8-8 record. Jackson was a big part of the teams emergence as the offensive mind behind the 10th rated offense in the NFL. Jackson will look to continue on this trend for the Raiders.
The Cleveland Browns are interviewing former head coaches, Dave Wannstedt and Dick Jauron for their defensive coordinator job. Wannstedt is about a month away from his being fired as the University of Pittsburgh coaching job. Jauron spent last season as a special assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jauron is also up for the defensive coordinator job for Philadelphia.
