Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano and Kansas City head coach Todd Haley were fired from their jobs on Monday. The Chiefs currently have a record of 5-8 and the Dolphins come in at 4-9. Each suffered bad losses on Sunday, Kansas City lost to the NY Jets, by 23 and Dolphins fell to Philadelphia by 16.
Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles will fill in for the final three games. Miami started the season at 0-7, then rallied to win four out of five, before the debacle on Sunday. Miami will miss the playoffs for the third straight season.
Haley was dismissed after leading the Chiefs to the playoffs last year. A bad game on Sunday, marred by a 15-yard penalty on the former coach, likely led to this firing. Haley had a 19-27 record since taking over. Romeo Crennel will fill in as the head coach for the rest of the season. Kansas City still has a slim chance at a playoff spot due to the weak AFC West. Denver currently is in first place at 8-5. If the Broncos, Raiders and Chargers lose the rest of their games, and the Chiefs win out, they would win the division. Yet, this seems like a huge longshot with all the injuries they have faced.
