October 2nd 2011 21:51
The Philadelphia Eagles blew a 23-3 lead versus San Francisco 49ers, en route to losing 24-23. Detroit rallied from a 24-point deficit to beat Dallas, 34-30 to remain unbeaten.
The Cowboys took a 27-3 lead early in the third quarter, only to fall apart, amidst two Tony Romo interceptions which the Lions defense took in for touchdowns. Romo had three touchdowns and three interceptions on the game, passing for 331 yards. Bobby Carpenter got the Lions comeback started by picking off Romo and taking it to the house from 34 yards out. Next drive for the Cowboys offense was the same result, this time with the touchdown coming from Chris Houston from 56 yards out on a Romo interception.
Dallas tried to get something going, nearly scoring a touchdown on the next drive, but the Lions defense stiffened just in time and held the Cowboys to a field goal. Matthew Stafford who struggled for most of the game then got going. He led the Lions on a big drive capped off by a touchdown reception from Calvin Johnson. A 51-yard field goal then happened on the next drive from Detroit and Jason Hanson. The Cowboys got the ball back, clinging to a three-point lead, and just over four minutes left. Romo dropped back and once again found a Lions defender with the ball. Stafford took over from deep in Cowboys territory and another touchdown was soon to come for Detroit.
Philadelphia collapsed in large part to their ineffectiveness to stop Frank Gore. The 49ers running back keyed the teams three straight touchdowns to win the game. Gore had 127 rushing yards with 15 carries, an 8.7 yard per carry average. Alex Smith had 291 passing yards and two touchdowns on the game. Gore had the winning touchdown with three minutes left from 12 yards out to win the game for the 49ers. San Francisco is 3-1 and Philadelphia falls to 1-3.
