February 15th 2011 01:13
The number one recruit of all in College Football, chose South Carolina, this morning ending a week of speculation over where he would go. Jadeveon Clowney claims he chose the Gamecocks last week on signing day, but had to wait one week, to turn down all the other schools. Signing Clowney pushes the Gamecocks to a top-15 class. South Carolina the state's top prospect three straight seasons.
Clowney chose South Carolina over Clemson, and Alabama, other finalists for the defensive end's services. Clowney picked up 57 sacks in his final two seasons for South Pointe in South Carolina. Clowney began his high school career as a running back. He changed to the defensive side during his sophomore season, never looking back. Clowney stands 6'6 and runs the 40 in 4.6 seconds. His talents remind many of Houston Texans defensive end Mario Williams.
The defensive end will start right away for the Gamecocks who made huge strides this season. Coach Steve Spurrier has the team pointed in the right direction. South Carolina finished last year 9-5 with big wins coming over Alabama, and Florida. Running back Marcus Lattimore and quarterback Stephen Garcia are expected to be back next year for the team who will compete for first in the SEC again.
