Tom Brady sets a new Monday Night Football record in win
September 13th 2011 03:14
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has won three super bowls in his career with the team. He has thrown 265 career touchdown passes, including four on Monday night. But Brady has never thrown for over 500 yards in a game. He did just this on Monday night versus the Miami Dolphins.
Brady set new Monday night football record and franchise record with throwing for 517 yards in the Patriots, 38-24 win over Miami. One of the four touchdown passes went to Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker for 99 yards, tying another NFL record. Brady went 32-48 and became the 11th quarterback in NFL history to eclipse the 500-yard mark.
Miami gave up a new franchise record in yards to the Patriots, an amazing 622 yards in the game.
The Dolphins offense was efficient throughout the game, once again showing a weakness for New England, their defense. Chad Henne topped the 400 yard mark, in passing for 416 yards in the loss. Reggie Bush rushed for 38 yards on 11 carries for the Dolphins.
New England's defense did show some improvement with the addition of cornerback Ras I-Dowling, who provided some nice shutdown defense of Dolphins wide receivers. Miami lost defensive end Jason Taylor to an injury in the late part of the second quarter, he did not return to the game.
