Tis the Holiday Season in the NFL

December 13th 2010 01:21
In honor of the upcoming holidays, many key players in the NFL helped their team lose, not win in today's action.

First off ,Mark Sanchez who completed 17 out of 44 passes in the New York Jets, 10-6 loss to Miami. Some of the incompletions were due to receivers dropping the ball. Sanchez also fumbled the ball four times, only one was recovered by the Dolphins, and threw one interception. In Sanchez's defense, the game was played in a constant downpour.

Secondly, the Green Bay Packers offense. Sure you lost Aaron Rodgers to an concussion but losing to Detroit? Matt Flynn came in for Rodgers and finished the game 15-26 for 155 yards and one interception. The Lions won the game 7-3. The only touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard pass from Detroit quarterback Drew Stanton to Will Heller. The victory snapped an 20 game losing streak for the Lions in the NFC North division.

Next up, Matt Hasselbeck and Seattle. San Francisco made quick work of the Seahawks, 40-21 Sunday. Hasselbeck aided the cause with four interceptions and one fumble. The Seahawks added two late touchdowns to make this game more respectable, but it was an wash from the start. Hasselbeck completed 27 out of 42 passes with two touchdowns in the defeat. 49ers quarterback Alex Smith made a great return to the starting lineup with three touchdowns passing in the victory. Seattle kept pace with the St. Louis Rams who lost today also. The 49ers are one game out of 1st place with an 5-8 record.

Will the real San Diego Chargers step up? Is it the team who defeated 1st place Kansas City, 31-0 on Sunday or the squad who lost twice to Oakland this season? The Chargers remained in the playoff race with the win over the Chiefs who were without starting quarterback Matt Cassell who had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday. Kansas City is 8-5 on the season.

Two Monday night games this week? Thanks to Minnesota's Metrodome collapsing we will get to watch two games tomorrow. Well only if you are in the region as Minnesota and New York Giants game will only be shown to the select few. The game is being played in Detroit and will be free to those who choose to view the game. The Lions have not played on a Monday night game for over a decade so this will be a treat to the fans. Baltimore and Houston is the regualarly scheduled Monday night game.

Without Cassel, it was pretty much a crapshoot for the Chiefs as far as the passing game goes. Even though the Chargers were able to stack 8 in the box, I am still impressed with the way their run defense stopped TJ and JC. Aaron Rodgers is my favorite quarterback in the league by far. Seeing him hurt that bad tears me a little inside. Mark Sanchez is ranked number 22 on my list for the sole reason that he has games like that where he can't complete a pass. Sanchez is inconsistent, and the weakest QB of every passer for the top ten teams in the league. He is a huge liability going forward. You never know when he will suck next.
