Lt. Col. Michael Rowells with the US Army was flown from Afghanistan to Dubai, to play an round of golf with Tiger Woods. Rowells, beat out 16,000 other golfers in a draw for a chance to play with Woods.
Rowells is deployed in Afghanistan with the 401st Army Field Support Brigade. This is his first tour of Afghanistan, where his team works on logistics. Rowells is a father of four and lives in Mississippi.
Tiger, even with all his negative transgressions of last year, is trying to get back in people's good graces. He has fallen from the top golfer in the world, to third now. Tiger and Rowells had some common ground which helped make the round and day go smoother.
Earl Woods, Tiger's father went through two tours of the Vietnam War. Earl rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Tiger and Rowells, hung out for most of the day, talking about life, golf and the military. Rowells was a little rusty on the course, after not playing for a while. But he still got congratulated, time to time from the golfing great.
Rowells puts Tiger up with other golfing icons like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson.
Nice to see Tiger back in the news for something positive. He is the best golfer ever. Maybe meeting a true American hero like Rowells, will rub off a little on Tiger, for this year and upcoming years. Tiger will once again rule golf. The only question is when?
