The Year of Streaks

January 9th 2011 22:48
As the NBA season is nearly at the halfway mark, and trade talks are heating up, something else stays just as hot. Winning streaks. More so then in previous seasons, long winning streaks are popping up all over the league.

The Boston Celtics rattled off 14 in a row, only to face Orlando on Christmas day, and lose. Boston is 28-8, seven games up on second place New York. The Knicks due in large part to new arrival, Amare Stoudemire, won eight straight, earlier this season.

Miami, currently on a nine-game winning streak, are inching closer to their 12 game streak earlier this year. An 12-straight road game winning streak is on the line tonight in Portland. Second place Orlando in the Southeast division, are currently on a nine-game winning streak. Orlando is 25-12 on the season.

Two teams burning rubber in the West, are Dallas and San Antonio. The Mavericks long streak of the season is another of the 12-game variety. The Spurs, won 12-straight at one point this season and currently have the best mark at 30-6.

Everyone in the league other then Washington has won at least two games straight. The Wizards have lost 18-straight road games, easily the worst this year.

Something that comes with all the long winning streaks, is just the opposite. Lots of losing streaks. The longest of the season thus far is Cleveland, losers of 10-straight. The Cavs play at Phoenix tonight, as they can match this 10-game mark, currently on a nine-game streak. Everyone, even the reigning NBA champs, Los Angeles Lakers who lost four in a row, have lost at least two straight.

Winning and losing streaks are commonplace in the NBA, just so many this early on in the season, is an oddity. Look for this trend to continue as teams are very top heavy in the league.

Yeah, great analysis here. Couldn't agree with you more. LeBron is trying to make it worse to the point where he wants there to be stacked teams, and he wants to put other franchises in ruin. There really needs to be a new CBA. I am actually on the owner/commish side. The players are trying to rule this league, and they are forgetting who brought them into the league in the first place.

There are just so many bad teams and easy wins in the NBA now.
