The NCAA Joke
December 24th 2010 01:29
Okay, let me get this straight, NCAA, it is not okay for players to sell championship rings, jerseys, and awards. But if you do choose to sell these items you can still play in your respective bowl game if you are chosen.
Five Ohio State football players were suspended for five games beginning next season. The five will be allowed to play in Ohio State's Sugar bowl game appearance with Arkansas, January fourth.
Terrell Pryor, Ohio State's do everything quarterback is included in the five. Running back Daniel Herron, wideout Devier Posey, offensive tackle Mike Adams, and defensive end Solomon Adams all were suspended. Now the likely thing for Pryor, Herron, Posey, and Adams to do is jump to the pros. They all would be selected in the draft, Pryor likely in the first round. All five will be seniors next season.
The Buckeyes players sold memorabila in exchange for tattoos at a local tattoo parlor. According to players they didn't know what they were doing was wrong.
Now, why do the players get suspended for five games and not the Sugar Bowl? According to NCAA, the players did not receive adequate rules education during the time the violations occurred.
So if the players play dumb, any violation the NCAA finds will be on layover or not even sanctioned, as evident with the Cam Newton situation earlier this year.
Last season, Reggie Bush had his Heisman Trophy taken away from him due to improper benefits being given to him. Why does the NCAA prompt this to happen, but yet okay Newton and the Ohio State players? Doesn't make sense. It's all a matter of making money for the advertisers who pay for their commercials in the BCS games. If Georgia Tech had the same violation for their Independence Bowl appearance, they would be suspended for that game and four more next season.
The NCAA is making a mockery of themselves. Time for consistent punishments.
