The Friday Trio of games in the NBA

April 22nd 2011 03:25
The New York Knicks are hosting Boston in the prelude of a triple-header on Friday. Atlanta hosts the Magic in game three of that Eastern Conference battle, while the Hornets head back home for game three with the Lakers. The only team without a win yet in the playoffs playing in these games is the Knicks.

The Knicks may not have two of their top players in Chauncey Billups, and Amare Stoudemire. Stoudemire is expected to play, however while Billups is listed as questionable. The Knicks had chances in both games just couldn't finish the deal as Boston clinched both down the stretch.

The balanced scoring of Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett is too much for the Knicks who have two good scoreres. Rondo, Allen, and Pierce are averaging 60 points per game combined for the first two games. Garnett is scoring 14 points and 12 boards for the Celtics. It would be nice to see New York get the win, but I don't see it happening, just yet. Boston wins and puts the series at three games to none.

Orlando managed to earn a split as the Hawks didn't give them anything easy in their victory on Tuesday. Dwight Howard has done it all for the Magic in the first two games, averaging nearly 40 points and 19 boards per game. Jameer Nelson is scoring 20 points per game, but the supporting cast has been non-existent. Who will step up of the wing players, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu? Someone needs to aide Howard, or the Hawks will continue their winning ways here.

Jamal Crawford is the top scorer for the Hawks off the bench with 24 points. Joe Johnson, and Josh Smith both are averaging in double figures for the Hawks who are peaking here in the playoffs. Can the Magic match their intensity now on the road? Going to be tough.

Things are back to normal in Los Angeles after the Lakers got that first win over the Hornets, tying the series up. New Orleans guard Chris Paul is outplaying Kobe Bryant, making things more close between the two clubs. Paul scored 20 points and had nine assists in the Hornets game two loss after netting 33 points with 14 assists in game one. Bryant only scored 11 points in the Lakers win. Pau Gasol is averaging eight points during the first two games. He is just 4-19 from the field in the series.

Josh Smith with the Hawks look to gain control of the series with a win
The Hornets didn't make things easier for themselves by missing 12 free throws and committing 16 turnovers in game two. Los Angeles needs to be in top form to beat this scrappy Hornets squad. Guys are reallly stepping up on the squad, including Carl Landry, Jarrett Jack and Trevor Ariza. Landry is averaging 15 points while helping slow down Gasol. I don't see the Lakers losing on Friday, but I didn't see them dropping game one either. Anythings possible.

If Amar'e doesn't play, it will most likely be a 3-0 lead for Boston.
