Terror attack likely at 2012 Olympics

November 27th 2010 19:42
According to Britian's security minister, Pauline Neville-Jones, an terrorist attack on the London games is immient.

To help prepare the country for a possible attack, a series of simulations will take place up until the opening ceremony on July 27, 2012. 9,000 police officers are expected to be patrolling the area each day to assist with any issues.

One area of concern is cyber-terrorism which was a problem for Bejing in the 2008 games. Numbers revealed by the British government showed 12 million cyber hits a day during the games.

Here's to hope that Britian can get the security levels up to par even with possible budget cuts the new governement is proposing. The Summer Olympics are where the top athletes in the world come to meet over about a month period. Let's keep it that way!

This is really scary stuff, and it makes me skeptical on a possible 2022 World Cup bid for Qatar. It just seems that a big sporting event is a terrorist attack in-waiting. I am glad London is hosting an Olympics- London is the best city out there- but everyone needs to be on huge alert.
