Teams on the ropes in the NBA Playoffs
April 27th 2011 01:20
Philadelphia, San Antonio and Denver. All three need a win Wednesday to stay alive in the 2011 playoffs. The only home team of the three is top-seeded San Antonio. This Spurs team is a far cry from the team who coasted to a 61 win season. There were bumps and a losing streak along the way,but who would of guessed an early playoff exit? While we are on the subject, another surprise is Oklahoma City who have the Nuggets on the brink of elimination. The Thunder were three points away from sweeping Denver on Monday night. Philadelphia fought off Miami with a late 10-0 run on Easter to stay alive. It was an Easter miracle for the 76ers who now get to face the Heat in Miami.
We had an Andre Iguodala sighting on Sunday in game four of the series with Miami. Iguodala is Philadelphia's best all-around player though he hasn't shown this during the series. The former Arizona Wildcat is averaging just nine points per game. He scored 16 on Sunday as a glimpse of what he could do. Iguoldala is leading the team is leading the team in assists with eight per game. But we are used to seeing so much more out of him. Key three-pointers from Jrue Holliday and Louis Williams keyed the 76ers late run.
Was great seeing Miami finally struggle here in the playoffs down the stretch of game four. Sure Philadelphia is not putting up much of a fight, but the Heat have coasted through this series. Lebron James is averaging 26 points per game. He scored 31 in game four. Dwayne Wade chipped in with 22 points. The 76ers don't put up as much fight in game five as Miami wins and clinches the division.
Memphis is really coming together as a team with Zach Randolph leading the way. He is sure a long way away from what the player he was at Portland. Randolph was such a bone-head off the court everyone in Portland was glad to see him go. This Randolph is one we would love to have in the city. He is averaging 18 points during the series. Marc Gasol is leading both teams with 11 rebounds per game, while Mike Conley continues to out-play Tony Parker. Conley is averaging seven assists per game.
The Spurs are not going to lose a series clincher at home. San Antonio has not played well yet this series. Hopefully they will wake up before its too late. Tim Duncan is aging, everyone does. He is still an good NBA player, scoring around 13 points per game in the series. Parker and Manu Ginoboli are both scoring around 18. The other starters Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess need to step up, as do the bench guys like DeJuan Blair and George Hill. San Antonio wins here, but it will be tough.
Finally, Denver and Oklahoma City. Before the playoffs began this was the series which everyone predicted would go the distance. Seven games. The Thunder had a great chance to win this in four. But Denver with the help of the home fans earned the win avoiding the sweep. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 31 points, but it wasn't enough. Russell Westbrook scored 30 points, after taking 30 shots.
Ty Lawson scored 27 points for the Nuggets to lead the way. Denver had a balanced effort with Danilo Gallanari, J.R. Smith, Keynon Martin, and Raymond Felton each going into double-figures scoring. The Nuggets need a repeat performance to stand a chance here. The Thunder find a way to get it done here, and earn a first round victory. Next up, Memphis in the second round? Can't believe I am saying that.
