Spurs and Grizzlies game 6 in the Playoffs

April 29th 2011 03:20
Two games in the books thus far tonight, with the Magic and Hornets seasons both coming to an end. Atlanta and the LA Lakers advance to the next round after ending their first round series in six games. The Magic put up a great fight, but just couldn't get over the hump in tonight's game. J.J. Reddick missed a last second three pointer then Jason Richardson missed and the celebration was on in Atlanta after a 84-81 win. Dwight Howard scored 25 points and had 15 rebounds for the Magic. Joe Johnson scored 23 points with 10 boards for the Hawks. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 24 points in their win, despite playing on an injured ankle. Chris Paul nearly had another triple double, falling just two rebounds short. He scored 10 points, had 11 assists and eight rebounds.

Right now, the Blazers hold a six-point advantage over the Mavericks in game six as they look to keep the series going with a game seven on Saturday in Dallas. In the NBA tomorrow there is one game on the docket. Game six with Memphis hosting San Antonio.

Quite an amazing finish we all were treated too on Wednesday night in game five of this series. Just when it appeared the Grizzlies had the game and series won, San Antonio kept coming. First it was Manu Ginoboli draining a lopsided jumper on a broken play with the Spurs down three. Initially the Argentinian was given a three-pointer but replays found he was standing on the line. Thus, the Grizzlies still were ahead by one. Then the Spurs fouled Zach Randolph and the former Trail Blazer calmy swished two free throws. 1.2 seconds remained on the clock, and the Spurs were down three. Rookie Gary Neal entered the game for Tony Parker. Neal received the ball around the top of the key, and got a little opening. Then he canned the game-tying shot. The Spurs went on to win by seven points at 110-103.

The key in game six will be how the Grizzlies respond after failing to close out the series. San Antonio has the momentum now. Memphis with the home-town fans behind them should be able to get going again. Memphis with Randolph and Marc Gasol dominating the Spurs big-men once again should grab control in the fourth quarter, when Mike Conley takes over. The Grizzlies move onto a series with Oklahoma City after taking out the Spurs.
Mike Conley and the Grizzlies need one more win to eliminate the Spurs

I wasn't surprised with either result. The Titans are geniuses, and I wish I could say the same for the Panthers. Locker>Newton. I'll give Newton a chance though.
