The New Orleans Saints thanks to a gift from Atlanta head coach Mike Smith, won on Sunday 26-23 in overtime. Smith rolled the dice in the overtime going for it on fourth and inches at the Falcons 30-yard line.
The win improved the Saints to 7-3 on the year, dropping Atlanta to 5-4. Drew Brees passed for 322 yards on the game, completing 30 out of 43 passes. Matt Ryan bettered Brees by 29 yards, passing for 351 yards. Yet the Saints were in control for most of the game, and just let the Falcons back into it in the end.
Two field goals in the fourth quarter from John Kasa y put New Orleans up 23-13 with seven minutes left. Atlanta then finally woke up, as Ryan promptly led the team down the field. It culminated in a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tony Gonzalez pulling Atlanta within three points with four minutes left. After a punt from the Saints thanks to a holding call, keeping them from attempting a field goal, Atlanta cruised down the field. Ryan had a couple of chances to win the game, but instead the Saints defense stood up. Then Matt Bryant knocked in a 23-yard field goal and overtime ensued.
Michael Turner took the handoff from Ryan on the decisive fourth down play, only to run the ball up the middle into a plethora of Saints waiting for him. Brees then got one first down and Kasay ended the game with a 26-yard field goal.
Been a wild day on the gridiron. St. Louis, and Miami each earned their second win on the year with wins over Cleveland and Washington. Dallas, Tennessee, and Houston rolled over stiff competition. The Cowboys behind the hot hand of Tony Romo blew out Buffalo, 44-7. Romo completed his first 13 passes, finishing with three touchdowns and 270 passing yards. The Titans whipped Carolina, 30-3 and Houston stomped Tampa Bay, 37-9. Both the Titans and Texans won on the road.
One possible upset is in the mix right now as Baltimore once again is playing down to their level of competition. The Ravens are down 22-10 to Seattle in the fourth quarter. The Ravens have three turnovers on the game. Seattle is helping Baltimore out by not getting any touchdowns, five field goals have been made by Stephen Haushcka.
