Rudy Gay out for season

Memphis Grizzlies are in a battle for the eighth spot in the Western Conference. They will have to continue this race, without arguably their best player, Rudy Gay. The small forward needs surgery on his left shoulder. He has missed the previous 14 games due to this injury, Memphis is 8-6 in his abscence.
Memphis last reached the postseason in 2005-06 season, without Gay this chase will be difficult. The forward from Connecticut is averaging 20 points and six rebounds per game, as a solid complement to Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies with the two forwards playing, have one of the best frontcourts in the NBA, adding Marc Gasol to the mix. Now the Grizzlies have to turn to Tony Allen, and Shane Battier, who was brought in by management on one of the trade-deadline day deals.
Allen is not Gay, making things difficult on the Grizzlies and Randolph. Allen is averaging eight points on the season, though this will likely increase with the new rotation set. Allen did show what he is capable of on March, 19th versus Indiana, scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. He just won't be as consistent as Gay was for the team. Having Battier around is good as a backup and solid veteran help for the team. Battier has played on playoff teams before.
One things for certain if Randolph goes down to injury, Memphis has no chance. The forward from Michigan State is averaging 20 points, and 13 boards for the Grizzlies. Him and Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge were big All-star game snubs. Mike Conley is the lone Grizzlies player to play in every game this season. The guard averages 14 points and seven assists. Memphis is in trouble though as other teams like Houston, and Phoenix have the overall better talent without Gay available. Look for Memphis next year if everyone hangs around.
