Rubio signs with Timberwolves

One day after his Spanish team won the ACB Championship, reports of Ricky Rubio signing with Minnesota have surfaced. The point guard was drafted fifth in 2009 to the Timberwolves. There is one holdup keeping the guard from coming to the NBA. He needs a letter of clearance from FIBA, the sports international governing body.
Rubio plays for Barcleona in the Spanish basketball league. He averaged 6.5 points per game this year for Barcleona. Rubio fell out of the starting lineup with his offensive struggles. His buyout has dropped to $1.4 million dollars, and Minnesota can pay up to $500,000 of this. Rubio will likely pay the remainder to join the NBA team which has a combined 32 wins the last two seasons.
Minnesota had a deal to get Rubio back in 2009 with Joventut, but the guard backed out of this at the last second. He is ready to make the leap now. Rubio has played professionally since 2005, with Joventut when he was just 15. He played with Joventut from 2005-2009 before being traded to Barcelona. Rubio's numbers have steadily gone down after being traded to Barcelona, where he has been the main starter.
The guard has been called Europe's best guard prospect ever. Minnesota needs definite help now. They are currently shopping backup point guard Jonny Flynn to make room for Rubio who will likely take the starting spot. Luke Ridenour was last season's starting point guard. He had marginal success but is best suited for the bench. Adding Rubio and Derrick Williams in the upcoming draft with the second pick would add instant punch to a lackluster bunch.
