Roy ready for return?
February 9th 2011 00:30
The Portland Trailblazers defeated the Chicago Bulls, 109-103, behind 42 points from LaMarcus Aldridge. After the game, all the talk has been about injured guard Brandon Roy, and whether he will return by this week.
Three weeks ago to the day, Roy had arthroscopic surgery done on both knees. Roy claims he is now almost pain-free. His right knee is perfect, while the left still remains sore, but he has played for years with this knee being difficult.
The Blazers have found an new leader in Aldridge who is blossoming into an all-star, since Roy went down. Before this season, Roy was the go-to guy on the team. He had a string of three straight all-star game appearances. But the knee problem which bothered him at the end of last season, continued into this season. So Portland decided to have surgery on both knees, sidelining Roy.
Roy has not played in any game since December 15th. Portland is 16-10 without him. Bringing Roy back too soon, may prove detrimental then positive to the team. This happened during the playoffs of last season when he came back from an meniscus tear in his knee. Head coach Nate McMillian wants to observe Roy before making a decision if the player will return now or later. I'm hoping for later. Roy is one of Portland's best players. They need him at 100%, no question. Aldridge has proved to be a great number-one guy, with Roy back the team would have that number-two guy. But don't rush it Portland. Don't rush it again.
