Ricky Williams signs with Baltimore

August 8th 2011 19:09
Ricky Williams is now a Baltimore Raven
Former Texas Longhorns great running back Ricky Williams has signed a deal to play for Baltimore.

Williams will be paid around $2.5 million per year for two seasons. He is expected to help fill the void left by Willis McGahee and Leron Mc'Clain. Williams gets to back up Ray Rice at Baltimore. He played last season for Miami, sharing snaps with Ronnie Brown.

Williams has 9,565 career rushing yards in 131 games. He has been with the Miami Dolphins since 2002. A brief retirement in 2004 plus only one game in 2006 were his only holdups.

In other news, as expected DeSean Jackson reported to Philadelphia Eagles training camp. He did not practice during the morning.

Detroit Lions rookie running back Mikel Leshoure broke his achilles tendon and will miss the entire season. Leshoure's injury is a big loss to Detroit who needed the second round back from Illinois to be available. Leshoure would provide Detroit a strong second running back to second year back Jahvid Best.

As a Steelers fan not too happy about this. But will be ready for him on opening day.

Remember when the Saints traded all their picks to get Ricky? I just don't know how much he has left, and he isn't- and shouldn't- get many carries. Ray Rice needs the rock, and he's one of the best five backs in the NFL. With the Lions' running back situation, you had to know something like this was coming. Their offense is average at best- no pun intended- and now they have an unproven running back who is a huge injury risk. Their backups? Yeah, that's what I thought. Best is a decent player, and LeShoure was almost the same thing as Best when you look at age, injury risk, and value to the team. But you had to know that one of these guys would go down. Unfortunately, nobody knew it would be this early and this bad.

I've torn my Achilles. It's no fun and a slow road back. Honestly I've never been the same. I do remember Ricky and the trade, because I live in the D.C. area and it involved the Skins. Honestly those picks should have set Washington up for the next decade, but except for Levar Arrington and Chris Samuels they wasted them. They've been paying for it ever since.
