Rich Rodriguez likely fired
January 4th 2011 23:43
Three days after, the Michigan Wolverines lost 52-14 to Mississippi State, Michigan officials are about to fire coach Rich Rodriguez.
After building up West Virginia into a national powerhouse, Rodriguez moved onto the Big-10 and Michigan. He has only been here three seasons. A record of 15-22, including 6-18 in conference games, and 0-6 versus Michigan State and Ohio State.
For how good Rodriguez is an offensive genius, he couldn't get the defensive side of the battle down as an Wolverine. This year, his defense ranked 110 in the country, giving up 450 yards per game. The defense declined each year of his tenure.
A great start this season catapulted the Wolverines into the top 25, after winning their first five games, only to be brought back down to Earth after losing to Michigan State. Quarterback Denard Robinson was mentioned as a Heisman front-runner only as the losses mounted, this faltered.
The NCAA came knocking last year, citing the Wolverines with a slew of violations, namely just of the practice and training category, nothing to do with Rodriguez directly. Nothing could be found to provide evidence he conducted an un-complaint practice atmosphere.
Now, Michigan turns to hopes of luring Jim Harbaugh from Stanford to his alma mater. This is highly unlikely as Harbaugh also has the NFL calling.
