Random Saturday Observations

Civil War shapes up as a must win for both teams: With the game still over a week away, the Oregon State and Oregon is looking like one for the ages. Even more so then the previous two years with the Rose Bowl on the line. Oregon (10-0) if they defeat Arizona on Friday will stay at the top of the rankings heading into Corvallis. Oregon State (5-5) on Saturday kept their bowl hopes alive by demolishing USC, 36-7, suddenly looking like a team with a chip on their shoulder. Coach Mike Riley really had the guys playing intense football. Next Saturday, OSU travels to Palo Alto, California to face sixth-ranked Stanford. The Cardnial have dominated their competitors this season, all but one game versus Oregon. So a victory at Stanford will be nearly impossible. Making the Civil War a must win for Oregon State to acheive bowl game status. I will examine how Oregon State can beat Stanford later this week...
Boise State inching closer to TCU: As the new BCS rankings came out this week, one thing is for sure, Boise State (10-0) will pass TCU (11-0) after their victory next week over Nevada (10-1). TCU will finish unbeaten but be fourth ranked after a win next week over New Mexico (1-10). Boise State jumps TCU because of, get this, a tougher schedule, thanks to Virginia Tech, Nevada, and now Oregon State playing well, all victories of course for Boise State.
Nebraska loss won't keep them out of Big-12 Title game: The Cornhuskers offense only totaled two field goals and lose to Texas A&M Saturday but is still in line to make the conference title game. Thanks to a victory over Missouri earlier on this season, Nebraska has the tiebreaker over the Tigers. Both teams are tied for first north side of the Big-12 at 5-2. Texas A&M with the victory moved into a tie with Oklahoma for second in the south part of the division, one game behind Oklahoma State.
