Previews of Compass and Hunger Bowls

Compass Bowl: My how Pittsburgh has fallen all the way to one of the new bowls. Coach Dave Wannstedt out. Coach Michael Haywood out without coaching one game. Now the Panthers face Kentucky in this Saturdays bowl starting before the playoffs begin.
Pittsburgh (7-5) began the year in the top-25 only to fall out fast after getting embarrased to Miami and losses to Utah, and Notre Dame. Offensive stars litter the field when Pitt takes possession of the ball. Running back Dion Lewis, receiver Jonathan Baldwin, and quarterback Tito Sunseri. Lewis has rushed for 956 yards, backup Ray Graham has 832 on the ground. Baldwin has 52 grabs for 810 yards. Sunseri went for 15 touchdowns and 2,482 yards passing. Pitt wins with the running game, and tough defense which has held opponents to 19 points per game.
Kentucky (6-6) moves the ball with an aerial attack. All-American wide receiver Randall Cobb brought in 79 receptions. Cobb went for 2,195 all purpose yards for the year. Due to an shoulder injury backup quarterback Morgan Newton will start in place of Mike Hartline. Running back Derrick Locke may earn more carries to aide the passing game. Locke has 816 on the season.
Hard game to pick. Both teams have their advantages and dis-advantages. Going with Pitt due to a big game from Lewis.
Hunger Bowl: After the playoffs conclude, one more game is on tap. Boston College (7-5) versus Nevada (12-1). Strength versus strength.
Nevada has steadily moved back up the polls after losing to Hawaii, largely due to defeating Boise State. Wonder where Nevada would be if they went undefeated? Colin Kaepernick is the guy who makes this team go. Him and senior Vai Tua are seniors playing their final game. Kaepernick's numbers compare to Cam Newton. Going for 2.830 passing yards, and rushing for 1,184 yards. Kaepernick has 20 touchdowns both passing and on the ground. Tua has 19 touchdowns and 1,584 yards.
Boston College on the strength of winning their final five games advanced to a another game. An offense largely based on the run is led by Montel Harris who is expected to be back after missing the season finale. Harris, 1,243 yards will be missed if he isn't available. Backup Andre Williams can carry the load with a big game versus Syracuse, gaining 183 yards on 42 carries. Linebackers Luke Kuechly and Mark Herzlich are the main cogs for the Eagles. Kuechly totaled 171 tackles, Herzlich 60 this year. Herzlich missed last season due to cancer, but made a complete recovery. His 2008 season earned him ACC- Defensive player of the year honors.
Another battle with strength versus strength. What will be interesting is how Boston College does offensively. Can they keep the Wolfpack off the field to help out their defense? This is a big "if". Think the game will be a good treat, watching Kaeprnick and Tua against quick, good linebackers. Nevada wins.
