Preview of Wisconsin and Purdue
February 16th 2011 00:57
Wednesday night brings a huge game in the Big-10. Wisconsin, after knocking off top-ranked Ohio State travels to play at Purdue. Everything is set for a great game.
The Badgers had to play a perfect game to defeat Ohio State. They did just that, and now fears of a let-down creep in. With head coach Bo Ryan, I wouldn't expect one for the Badgers. These two teams played on February 1st, and Wisconsin protected their home-court gaining the victory, 66-59. For this game, the stakes are a bit higher.
Purdue at 20-5 on the year seem to have righted the ship after losing four of seven games. The duo of JaJuan Johnson and E'twaun Moore are having career seasons. Johnson is averaging 21 points and eight rebounds, while Moore counters with 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Needless to say the Boilermakers would be lost without either player. Coach Matt Painter and Purdue have Ohio State coming up on Sunday. After last month's disasterous 87-64, defeat from the Buckeyes, you have to hope Purdue is not looking forward to that game. Having Wisconsin coming to your door, I would doubt this.
The Badgers rode the hot-hand of Jordan Taylor to come back from 15 points behind versus Ohio State. More of the same will be needed for this game. Wisconsin needs a huge game from Jon Leur to counteract Johnson and Moore up front. Leur scored 24 points when the two teams met on the 1st. Wednesdays game will be another defensive masterpiece with both teams fighting it out till the end. I see the home-court being huge for Purdue, but the Badgers will not go down quietly. Look for Johnson and Moore to set the stage for a Boilermakers victory.
