Preview of Miami and Orlando
March 3rd 2011 03:04
The first of back-to-back games for Orlando begins Thursday as they travel to Miami. The Magic host Chicago on Friday, another key Eastern Conference encounter. Firstly, the Magic get to face Miami. They sit four games behind Miami in the Southeast Division, at 39-22 on the year.
Miami leads the season series right now, two games to one. The latest game occured one month ago, with Miami handing Orlando a rare home-loss, 104-100. Miami whipped the Magic on October, 29th, 96-70. Orlando center Dwight Howard had one of his worst games of his career in the early season loss. Howard redeemed himself a few weeks later in Orlando's 104-95 victory over the Heat. Howard scored 24 points and had 18 rebounds as he outworked anyone Miami threw at him. In Orlando's recent loss to Miami, Howard struggled to 17 points and 16 rebounds. He only scored one point in the second half, while Orlando came back from a 21-point deficit to almost win the game.
The Magic need more of this from Howard on Thursday. Orlando after losing to Sacramento last week is on a three-game winning streak including a blowout victory over Oklahoma City last Friday. Howard had a career night going for 40 points, 15 rebounds, six blocks and two steals. The center outshined Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant in the 111-88 victory.
Lebron James scored 51 points in Miami's win recent win over Orlando. He added 11 rebounds, and eight assists to that total. James during the week had been called out as a player who lacked "competitiveness." He dominated Orlando in proving he is competitive. Miami is 43-17 on the year, second in the Eastern Conference. They are adding point guard Mike Bibby to the roster, but he will not be available for this game. Dwyane Wade averages 26 points per game. James averages 26 points, and Chris Bosh chips in with 19. But a lack of a bench has hurt the Heat in their losses this year. The top three guys and then mostly nothing. Bibby will aide this weakness when he arrives.
Orlando proved they can beat the Heat even when Howard struggles. James scored the most points by anyone in the league this year in going for 51 points. The Magic still almost even with James going off. Howard will have a big game on Thursday. Orlando wins a tight game.

I have to agree that I do feel Orlando pulls this game out. Miami has struggled all year long against the better teams in the League. Until they can beat these teams on a night in and night out basis I will fade the Heat against these top teams.
