Preview of Boston and Indiana

March 28th 2011 02:42
Monday afternoon is the latest chapter in this rivalry. The games have lost their luster since Reggie Miller left Indiana and the great three all retired from Boston, but if these two teams face-off in the playoffs, some intensity could emerge again. Boston needs to catch up with Chicago and grab the top-seed back in the conference for this to happen. Oh and Indiana needs to start winning again, after losing two straight games to Sacramento, and Detroit. Indiana is clinging to the eighth spot in the East, one game ahead of Charlotte.

If the season series is any indication of what a playoff series would like then Indiana needs help. Boston has won all three of the teams meetings this year, all by double-digits. If there is any silver lining for Indiana, its that Boston is struggling also. Before Sunday's game that saw Boston nearly lose to Minnesota, the Celtics have lost six out of ten games. Whats Boston's problem? Other then nobody wanting to score points, not much. Boston has been held under 90 points every game since March 4th when they scored 107 in a game with Golden State. Boston has had to rely more on their great defense to win games. Rajon Rondo missed Sunday's game with Minnesota and will likely miss this game with Indiana, making Delonte West the teams starting point guard.

The Pacers have been wildly inconsistent, especially against the teams they should defeat. Non-playoff teams continue to give Indiana issues. March has been a great example of how the Pacers have been up and down. After beating Golden State to begin the month, Indiana lost six straight games, before beating the Knicks two in a row. A win over Chicago, and Charlotte both good wins show signs of improvement. Then the recent losses brings one to question, is Indiana worthy of a playoff berth? Danny Granger is the leader on the team, averaging 20 points per game.

Boston with a steady supply of Kevin Garnett has kept Granger at bay during their outings this year. Granger needs a better outing this time around. If the fifth-year forward can't get going here, Indiana is NBA draft lottery bound. Boston misses Rondo as evident by their effort in the final moments of Sunday's game. Minnesota was missing Kevin Love for the game. Michael Beasley had a great game for the Wolves. Granger has a decent game, but Indiana loses once again to Boston.
