Preview of Atlanta and Philadelphia
March 23rd 2011 00:01
Philadelphia is hosting Atlanta in the fourth game between the two this year on Wednesday. Atlanta leads the series, two games to one. Though things are changing as Philadelphia outscored Atlanta, 117-83 on the road in the teams most recent meeting. Philadelphia has a record of 36-34, and Atlanta is 40-30 this year.
Philadelphia is led by former Duke Blue Devil, Elton Brand. The forward is averaging 15 points and nine rebounds for the 76ers. Andre Iguodala contributes with 14 points, and former UCLA Bruin, Jrue Holliday is the glue of the team. Holliday scores 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds. This Philadelphia team is basically the same as last years, only change a new head coach in Doug Collins. The Sixers were 27-55 last season, and a team in need of a new direction. Collins brought this into the team. The 76ers are a talented team with solid players throughout the roster. As of right now, Philadelphia is sixth in the Eastern Conference, a half-game ahead of New York.
Atlanta hosts Chicago before traveling to Philadelphia. A tough back-to back for the Hawks, as Chicago is tied for first, and Philadelphia dominated the Hawks in their last meeting. Atlanta is not the same team after getting Kirk Hinrich. He is a much better defender and all-around player then Mike Bibby is at this point. Joe Johnson remains the go-to guy for the Hawks, averaging 19 points, five assists and four rebounds. Josh Smith has emerged as Johnson's top contributor, averaging 17 points, and nine rebounds. Jamal Crawford is amongst the league's best sixth men, scoring 15 points, and Al Horford is a great big man in the middle.
Philadelphia won the last game with the Hawks due to their balanced scoring. Six guys scored over ten points in the easy win, with Luis Williams leading the way with 20 points. Johnson was held to six points in the defeat. Atlanta did not have Hinrich or Horford during this game. The problem with the Hawks is other then Johnson, Crawford, Horford, and Smith nobody scores. Horford contributes mainly off rebounds and put-backs, while Johnson is the main guy. Philadelphia has a group of guys who score, lead by Brand. Philadelphia wins here, adding to the Hawks woes after likely losing tonight to Chicago.
