Poinsettia Bowl Preview

December 22nd 2010 01:20
Another classic, game pitting strength versus strength. San Diego State (8-4) has a great rushing defense. They will face off against one of the country's best rushing offenses with Navy (9-3).

Navy averages 288 rushing yards per game, fifth in the country. Led by quarterback Ricky Dobbs who rushed for 860 yards on the season, and passed for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. Alexander Teich and Gee Gee Greene both can run the ball if given the opportunity. Teich has 899 yards on the season, while the small Greene has 459 yards.

San Diego State ranked third in the Mountain West in rushing defense, giving up fewer then 90 yards per game this season. The Aztecs, four losses on the season came by an combined 15 points. TCU and Utah were two of the losses. Miles Burris leads the defense with 74 tackles, 19 of these were tackles for a loss. Burris also has 9 and a half sacks on the season.

Leading the Aztec offense is quarterback Ryan Lindley who tied TCU quarterback for the Mountain West lead in touchdowns with 26. Lindley has thrown for 3,554 yards on the season. Coming out of the backfield for the Aztecs is freshman running back Ronnie Hilman who has gained 1,304 yards on the ground. San Diego State has two great receivers for Lindley to take advantage of in DeMarco Sampson and Vincent Brown. The two combined for 126 catches and 17 touchdowns on the season.

Navy doesn't have the defense to shut down San Diego State. The Aztecs can control Navy's vaunted rushing attack with their defense. This game could be a wash. Don't count on it as Navy has the hogs to make it a great game. Look for the best game thus far on the bowl season. San Diego State with the win.

I agree, San Diego State take this game from Navy. I don't think Navy will completely stink, but they won't exactly make it close as you said. Great post man. I really enjoy your work.
