Pittsburgh inks Lawrence Timmons to new deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Lawrence Timmons to a six-year contract on Tuesday. Timmons will make $50 million for the duration of the contract. This pairs him with fellow linebacker LaMarr Woodley until 2016.
Timmons led the former AFC league champions with 134 tackles, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. He started out slow as a rookie in 2007 with 13 tackles, before breaking out in 2008. Timmons recorded 65 tackles during the season, plus five tackles in the Steelers Super Bowl victory over Arizona.
Re-signing the former Florida State linebacker to a new deal keeps one of the most athletic defensive players in black and gold. Last week in practice, Timmons kept up with wide receiver Antonio Brown on a fly pattern. Brown runs the 40 in 4.3 seconds.
Pittsburgh already signed Ike Taylor to a new deal, in addition to Woodley. Next up for the Steelers is what to do with Troy Polemalu. Due to limited cap space, Polemalu now will have to wait till the off-season for a new deal. Pittsburgh may designate the former USC Trojan as a franchise player to keep him.
