Pistons hire Frank as coach

The Detroit Pistons have hired former New Jersey Nets head coach and current Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank to be their new head coach. The deal is not yet finalized, though Frank is expected to get a contract within the next two days. He was picked over former Atlanta Hawks head Mike Woodson.
Since John Kuester was fired back on June 5th, Woodson was expected to be the new head coach. He was Detroit's president of basketball operations Joe Dumars top choice. But over the past week, Frank emerged as the leading canidate. Detroit's new owner Tom Gores enlisted the help of former New York Knicks executive Dave Checketts. Both guys liked Frank, thus making this hire immienent.
Frank has a career record of 225-241 while coaching the New Jersey Nets for just over seven seasons. He joined Doc Rivers staff this past season, and was able to learn even more tricks. This appealed to Detroit, as they want to follow Boston's brand of success.
This is a good hire for a team needing stability. Detroit has a few pieces to work with, Ben Gordon, and Austin Daye as the new crop of players. Then adding Brandon Knight and Kyle Singler in the NBA Draft didn't hurt. Now with the addition of Frank, Detroit seems to be getting back on track after some down years.
