Peyton Manning has more surgery
September 8th 2011 23:43
The Indianapolis Colts will be without their star player for at least two months, maybe the whole season after undergoing another surgery. This is Manning's third procedure in the past 19 months.
Manning underwent a one-level cervical neck fusion on Thursday. This surgery was done to help repair a bulging disc. Manning will begin rehab right away in hopes of hitting the field soon for the Colts. Typically the surgery takes the patient, 8-10 weeks to recover.
An anterior fusion is where a surgeon will remove tissue in front of the neck, between the vertebrae and fusing the bones together.
Indianapolis will now turn to Kerry Collins as their new starting quarterback. Manning was left on the active roster, and not placed on injury reserve to preserve his status for later on in the season.
The Colts face Houston in the opener on Sunday. If it takes Manning 10 weeks to recover, then he will take the field against Jacksonville on November, 13th.
One things for sure, it will be weird not seeing Manning on the field for a while. He has made 227 straight starts. Manning's last game not starting, all the way back in 1994 when he played at the University of Tennessee.
