March 12th 2011 08:58
The Big 12 final has Kansas and Texas, once again going at one another. Kansas gets a chance at revenge after losing their only game with Texas, 74-63 during the season. Texas's victory halted Kansas's 68 game winning streak. Now the Jayhawks who are still ranked second in the country, has a chance for revenge.
Kansas is 31-2 on the season, and 14-2 in conference play. The Morris brothers lead the Jayhawks in scoring and rebounding. Marcus Morris averages 17 points and seven rebounds, while Martief Morris scores 13 points and has eight boards.
J'Covan Brown led the Longhorns with 23 points in Texas's victory over Kansas. The Longhorns easily dispatched of Texas A&M for the third time this year to gain a chance at the conference final. Jordan Hamilton averages 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Longhorns.
I like the Jayhawks here. Texas has struggled off and on since defeating Kansas earlier, now they seem to be getting going again. Though Texas A&M is not Kansas. The Jayhawks win.
Big West: Long Beach State faces off against the UC Santa Barbara for the conference's automatic bid. Top-seeded Long Beach State is 22-10 on the year, and the Gauchos are 17-13.
The teams played twice during the season with Long Beach State easily defeating the Gauchos both times. Casper Ware leads the 49ers from Long Beach State with 17 points per game. Larry Anderson contributes with 14 points.
The Gauchos are a surprise team after knocking off second seeded Cal Poly in the semifinals. Now they can punch a ticket to the Big Dance. Orlando Johnson leads the way, averaging 21 points per game.
Long Beach State wins here, making it look easy once again versus the Highlanders.
Big East: Connecticut and Louisville once again match up with the Big East crown on the line. The Huskies from Connecticut have won four games in four nights. Can they win a fifth? Louisville is 25-8 on the year. They won the teams only meeting this year, 79-78 in two overtimes.
Kemba Walker should of been named Co-Player of the year with Ben Hansborough of Notre Dame. He is averaging 23 points per game for the Huskies. Walker is averaging arounnd 28 points per game here in the Big East tournament. He scored 33 points in the Huskies victory over Syracuse in the semifinals.
Louisville finished fourth in the Big East. They knocked off second-seeded Notre Dame in the semifinals in overtime. Preston Knowles scored 20 points to lead the Cardinals to the win. Knowles averages 15 points on the year for Louisville.
Connecticut is going to be very tired heading into this game. Five games in five nights is nuts. Louisville has the advantage there, and should prosper. Walker will score points for the Huskies but Louisville wins.
Pac-10: Top-seeded Arizona takes on third-seeded Washington for the final. Arizona looked un-interested in the first round game with Oregon State, though they woke up and easily dispatched off USC in the semifinal. Washington came back to defeat Washington State, then lead the Ducks of Oregon all the way in the other semifinal. Arizona is 27-6 on the year, and Washington is 22-10.
The Wildcats are led by Derrick Williams who won the PAC-10 player of the year honors. Williams averages 19 points and eight rebounds per game. The somphomore averaged 24 points per outing versus the Huskies in their two-game split.
Washington needed a win or two to gain an at-large bid. They did just that and now can win the tournament. Isiah Thomas leads the way for the Huskies with 17 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
Arizona will win on Saturday as Williams once again has a great outing. Washington has the talent to play Arizona very close, though the Wildcats are playing too well right now.
Mountain West: Once again, the two top-ten teams of the Mountain West match up for the title of the conference. BYU and San Diego State have played two epic games this season, now they get a chance to top these games. BYU defeated the Aztecs both times, San Diego States only losses on the year.
Jimmer Freddette scored 52 points as the Cougars finally beat New Mexico on Friday. The Lobos beat BYU both times during the year. So it was huge to get that monkey off their back. Jackson Emery averages 13 points for the Cougars who are 30-3.
San Diego State outlasted UNLV and can get their own monkey off their back. The Aztecs are 31-2 on the year, with BYU getting the two defeats. Kwahli Leonard scored 18 points and had eight boards in the Aztecs victory over UNLV. Leonard leads San Diego State on the year, with 15 points and 11 rebounds per outing.
I like the Aztecs to get that win here, and solidify their second seed in the NCAA tournament. BYU and Freddette will put up a great fight. This game will be one of the best on the day. The Aztecs finally get that win.
WAC: Utah State and Boise State, the two top seeds face off. The Aggies of Utah State had issues with San Jose State, just defeating the seventh place team, 58-54. Boise State dominated New Mexico State, 81-63. The Aggies won both outings between the two, including a 77-49 drubbing on February, 5th. Utah State is 29-3 on the year.
Tai Wesley leads the way for the Aggies with 15 points and eight rebounds. The forward scored 22 points for Utah State in their victory over Boise State in February. Brockeith Pane contributes with 11 points.
Boise State is 20-11 this season. The Broncos are on a eight game winning streak since losing to Utah State by 28. La'Shard Anderson has stepped up his game during the streak. The guard is averaging 15 points, five assists, and three boards for the Broncos.
Utah State is another of those teams who have been on a collison course all year long with winning their conference crown. The Aggies had issues on Friday though, while the Broncos won their game easy. Boise State will fight here, though its hard to go against the Aggies. Utah State wins a fight.
