The Green Bay Packers got back to what they do best and that is win games as they knocked off Chicago, 35-21 on Christmas night. Green Bay had won 19 straight before losing to Kansas City last week.
Green Bay with the win clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Bears were eliminated from playoff contention after losing, putting Atlanta in the playoffs as the final team. The Falcons play in New Orleans later today. Aaron Rodgers had five touchdown passes on the game and 283 yards. Jordy Nelson had two touchdown receptions, James Jones also had two and Jermicheal Finley came down with the other.
Chicago was down to their third-string running back and third-string quarterback, yet kept the game close for a while. Josh McCown completed 19 out of 28 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Kahil Bell rushed for 121 yards. McCown found wide receiver Earl Bennent for a 49-yard reception early on in the third quarter, leading to a touchdown, cutting the Packers lead to 14-10. Rodgers then woke up, in leading the Packers to a quick two touchdowns and the game was over.
Green Bay hosts Detroit next week, in a game of two teams who will likely sit out some key players. Detroit clinched a playoff spot on Saturday after beating San Diego. Chicago will play at Minnesota, looking for their eighth win once again, and ending a four-game losing streak.
