September 20th 2011 22:36
Offensive Player of the Week: Jeremy Maclin in the Eagles loss to Atlanta, made 13 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Maclin got leveled by Atlanta cornerback Dunta Robinson, sidelining him for a play. Robinson was fined $40,000 for the hit, reminiscent of his last year on Eagles wide reciver DeSean Jackson. Two rookie quarterbacks, Andy Dalton from Cincinnati and Cam Newton at Carolina had great games as well. Dalton threw for 332 yards in the Bengals 24-22 loss to Denver and Newton passed for 432 yards as the Panthers lost by a touchdown to Green Bay.
Defensive Player of the Week: Charles Woodson from Green Bay made two interceptions of Newton and recovered a fumble. Woodson in his 14th season from Michigan continues to make plays on the field.
Best Win of the Week: Detroit 48-3 over Kansas City, ranks as the best win of the week. Atlanta defeating Philadelphia, 35-31 is second. The Lions whipped the Chiefs behind quarterback Matthew Stafford's four touchdown passes and a great defense which shut down the vaunted Chiefs offense. Kansas City lost starting running back Jamaal Charles for the season, further continuing their doom. Though not all is lost as Thomas Jones remains on the roster. The Chiefs have only scored ten points this year, and given up 88.
Most Surprising Loss of the Week: Baltimore losing 26-13 to Tennessee. A week after destroying Pittsburgh, 35-7, the Ravens came out flat and lost to Tennessee. Tennessee quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for 358 yards in the win. Three turnovers committed by the Ravens and just 184 yards of passing from Joe Flacco doomed the squad.
Three surprising teams at 2-0: Houston, Detroit, and Washington. None of these three have made the playoffs this century.
Three teams from last years playoffs at 0-2: Indinapolis, Kansas City, and Seattle.
Games to look forward too next week: Houston at New Orleans
Green Bay at Chicago
Atlanta at Tampa Bay
