NFL Week 13 Thoughts
December 1st 2010 02:41
Houston at Philadelphia: The Texans thankfully enough will not be missing their best player, Andre Johnson who took his aggression out on an opposing player last week. Good thing cause quarterback Matt Schaub can put some numbers up on the Eagle defense. Philadelphia (7-4) should be able to get back on track in an high scoring affair with a victory here. The Houston (5-6) defense shined last week versus a suspect offense in Tennessee. Nothing suspect about the Eagles offense.
Jacksonville at Tennessee: Thanks to a dominating performance from San Diego on Indianapolis, Jacksonville (6-5) moved into the first place in the AFC South division. The lead will not be relinquished this week. Tennessee (5-6) is lacking all punch in their offense and defense as evidenced by Cortland Finnegan last week. The Jags will be able to do whatever they want here.
Cleveland at Miami: The Browns won their fourth game last week thanks to a faulty kick off John Kasay's foot, but will not reach win five just yet. Miami (6-5) still in the playoff hunt remains there with an victory here. Cleveland (4-7) with Peyton Hillis rushing the ball well keeps the game close.
Chicago at Detroit: Detroit (2-9) kept the game close with New England on Thanksgiving and will do just the same here. The Bears offense really clicked with Jay Cutler for the first time this season to move the teams record to 8-3 with the win over Philadelphia. Cutler totaled four touchdowns in the game and figures to get at least two versus a suspect Lion defense. Chicago earns another win.
Buffalo at Minnesota: Buffalo (2-9) should of won last weeks game versus Pittsburgh, but a dropped pass in the end-zone prevented this from happening. Now they face a new look Minnesota (4-7) who displayed a willingness to win for the first time this season with Leslie Frazier as the new coach. Running back Adrian Peterson joins Brett Favre in the hobbling category with an sprained ankle. This will not slow the Vikings as they get another win.
New Orleans at Cincinnati: The Bengals are wasting lots of talent on the offensive side this season. Carson Palmer, Chad Ochocinco, and Terrell Owens are all talented players who have clicked at times and looked distant other times. Cincinnati (2-9) are destined for an coaching change maybe this week? Its time for Marvin Lewis to go. New Orleans (8-3) continue to march right along with an victory. Quarterback Drew Brees for the Saints continues to put up big numbers.
San Francisco at Green Bay: Green Bay (7-4) lost a heartbreaker to Atlanta but figure to get back on track here. San Francisco (4-7) are still in the playoff hunt thanks to an weak NFC West division will fall after their offense fails to move the ball. The Packers defense overwhelms Troy Smith and shuts down Brian Westbrook. Aaron Rogers throws for three touchdowns in the win.
Denver at Kansas City: Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, and Dwayne Bowe all performed well against Seattle. Heres another team without a good defense. Denver (3-8) have lots to be worried about as owner Pat Bowlen gave coach Josh McDaniels the dreaded vote of confidence this week. Kansas City (7-4) wins another and stays just ahead of San Diego.
Washington at NY Giants: A key NFC East game will push the Redskins down even further. After showing signs of life this season, Washington (5-6) have struggled ever since losing to Detroit in week eight. NY Giants (7-4) stay in a tie with Philadelphia atop the division.
Oakland at San Diego: Another year, another undefeated November for San Diego (6-5) who figure to show Oakland (5-6) the door with another win. The Raiders have the talent to give the Chargers fits if they can find the quarterback to lead the team. Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski have both fared pretty good for the team this season. Now's not the time to have an quarterback controversy, as the Raiders fall out of the playoff picture.
Carolina at Seattle: Can the Panthers finally get their second win of the season? Going to Seattle (5-6) will damper their chances here, but if they hosted the Seahawks then yes a win would come. Seattle is destined for a good performance on both sides of the ball for the first time this season. Carolina (1-10) continues their fall. Is coach John Fox next on the chopping block?
Atlanta at Tampa Bay: A huge divisional matchup for the NFC South here. Atlanta (9-2) is in for a dog fight with Tampa Bay (7-4). The Buccaneers are playing out of their minds this season for how young they are. Quarterback Josh Freeman is only 22 years old. Atlanta is not that much older as quarterback Matt Ryan is just 25. The Falcons will win a very close game and push Tampa Bay back in the playoff race.
St. Louis at Arizona: Too bad Arizona (3-8) quarterback Derek Anderson can't play with the same type of fight he showed an reporter after Arizona's loss to San Francisco Monday night. St. Louis (5-6) are locked in a tie for first place in the NFC west and after a win remain there. Rams running back Stephen Jackson continues to pace the young team with another outstanding game.
Dallas at Indianapolis: Dallas (3-8) for the third straight week looked spirited in a loss to New Orleans on Thursday. Interim head coach Jason Garrett has the Cowboys playing well. Indianapolis (6-5) has struggled here lately even with quarterback Peyton Manning playing. We are so accustomed to the Colts winning with Manning playing that this is very odd. The Colts need someone to help Manning out by running the ball. Without Joseph Addai, the offense has been mistake and turnover prone. Addai will miss this game, Mike Hart returns. The Colts return to winning ways.
Pittsburgh at Baltimore: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will play with a boot on his foot. This does not bode well for a Steeler offense which was ineffective for most of the game last Sunday versus Buffalo. Baltimore (8-3) has been dominant the last few weeks, including a great win over Tampa Bay last week. Pittsburgh (8-3) will try to run with Rashard Mendenhall to lessen the impact on Roethlisberger. The Ravens continue this winning way with a victory over the Steelers and take the season series, two games to none.
New York Jets at New England: The game of the week will be played on Monday. AFC east first place rights on the line with both teams sitting at 9-2. The Jets have barely been getting by, while New England has looked impressive in victories. New England scored 45 points on Thanksgiving in Detroit. The Patriots win here in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. Quarterback Tom Brady outduels Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.
