NFL Games This Week

December 16th 2010 23:23
San Francisco at San Diego: The Chargers showed last week they still have fight in them. Both teams still have a chance at the playoffs. San Francisco (5-8) thanks to the weak NFC West can still win the division. Coach Mike Singletary could lose his job if the team doesn't make it. Don't see the 49er offense having the type of game they had last week versus the weak Seahawk defense. San Diego (7-6) continues a late season push to the playoffs with the win.

New Orleans at Baltimore: What team will show up for the Ravens this week? The team who jumped to a 28-7 lead over Houston or the team who nearly lost after letting the Texans come back and tie the game? My bet is the tough team who jumped to the lead. New Orleans (10-3) is on a six game winning streak and quarterback Drew Brees now has the aide of a solid running game with Chris Ivory. Baltimore (9-4) will fight to the end but go down to defeat. New Orleans gets another win.

Arizona at Carolina: Here's a tough game to predict. Both teams are just as bad as the other. Carolina (1-12) is favored to win by three points. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen and running back Jonathan Stewart should be able to do whatever they want on offense. That is if they want too. Stewart has been putting up good numbers for how bad Carolina is. Arizona (4-9) quarterback John Skelton was 15-37 with one touchdown last week in his first start as a NFL player. This was versus a terrible Denver defense. If Carolina's defense can put some pressure on Skelton, they win. I think the Panthers do enough to win their second game.

Cleveland at Cincinnati: Colt McCoy will start the rest of the season for the Browns. This is very good news as Cleveland (5-8) is a much better team with him behind the center. Cincinnati (2-11) played really well against Pittsburgh last week. The only downfall was Carson Palmer's two interceptions which Steelers defenders took in for the only touchdowns of the game. This will be a game of field goals. The ball control ability Cleveland can accomplish will be big. The Browns win another.

Washington at Dallas: The game for last place in the NFC East division. Dallas (4-9) has put up some incredibile numbers since Wade Phillips was fired. Playing at home will be big for the Cowboys here. Washington (5-8) thanks to finding a running game last week was in the game with Tampa Bay until the end. Dallas has a stronger rushing defense then Tampa Bay does. Jon Kitna will be able to have a big game against the Redskin defense that is susceptible to the big play. Dallas gets another win.

Jacksonville at Indianapolis: First place in the AFC South division is up for grabs. Indianapolis (7-6) showed some lumps last week but still got the victory over Tennessee. Their defense has struggled mightily with injuries this season. Being able to control Maurice Lucas-Drew will be the key here. Peyton Manning will get his yards playing the weak Jaguar defense. Jacksonville (8-5) won't go down without a fight. Indianapolis will get a hard fought victory.

Buffalo at Miami: This has the makings of another low scoring affair. Neither team's offense has shown the ability to do anything this season. Miami (7-6) has won by doing just enough and having a tough defense. Buffalo (3-10) defeated Cleveland last week by the same principle. Not doing anything on offense but playing just good enough to win. Miami quarterback Chad Henne is on audition still. He is not the long term solution at quarterback for Miami but someone may take a chance on him in the off-season. Miami will do just enough to win again and stay in the playoff race.

Philadelphia at NY Giants: The possible game of the week has first place up for grabs in the NFC East division. Philadelphia (9-4) quarterback Michael Vick has put up big numbers this season and is considered a candidate for the MVP award. He will have his hands full with a tough defensive front the Giants have. New York (9-4) can beat you with Eli Mannings arm or with the running ability of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. The Eagles will need to protect Vick and hope for Eli to not show up to play. Don't think either will happen as the Giants win and take division lead.

Kansas City at St. Louis: Battle for Missouri hinges on whether Matt Cassel can play for Kansas City. If he goes the Chiefs can win. If not St. Louis (6-7) has the edge. Kansas City (8-5) is 2-5 on the road for the season and 0-1 with quarterback Bradie Croyle leading the team. The Rams are 4-2 at home. Sam Bradford has not put up great numbers this season but has been effective. The game will be up for the grabs even if Cassel plays. The Rams win and move into first place in the NFC West.

Detroit at Tampa Bay: The Buccaneers finally have an easy game on the schedule. Detroit (3-10) won the game last week against the Packers in large part of Aaron Rodgers going down to an concussion. Tampa Bay (8-5) is due for a big win after a stretch of playing Baltimore, New Orleans and Washington the past three weeks. Tampa Bay wins.

Houston at Tennessee: The rematch of Andre Johnson and Corteland Finnigan set to take place. As both teams are no longer in the playoff race that is all this game has to offer. Houston (5-8) showed spirit last week versus Baltimore in making a furious comeback before losing in the end. Matt Schaub attempted 62 passes in the loss. Titans will need more of the same from Kerry Collins and Chris Johnson. This game should be a high scoring affair, and Houston has the horses to win.

Atlanta at Seattle: The Seahawks don't have a prayer here. Atlanta (11-2) quarterback Matt Ryan and running back Michael Turner will have huge games versus one of the leagues worst defenses. Seattle (6-7) needs a big game out of Matt Hasselbeck to have a chance. Seattle will have to score lots of points to stay in the game. Don't think they can do it. The Falcons win big.

Denver at Oakland: The Broncos finally will give quarterback Tim Tebow the keys to the offense with Kyle Orton being injured. Denver (3-10) needs something to salvage this season. Oakland (6-7) will not score 59 points again like they did earlier this season playing Denver. They will put up lots of points however. Denver's defense struggled in stopping Arizona last week as the Cardnials scored 43 points. Oakland wins easily again.

New York Jets at Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh is on a roll largely due to their strong defense. New York (9-4) has lost two straight due to an ineffective offense. Mark Sanchez was terrible last week. Don't see him doing much better against the Steelers here. Pittsburgh (10-3) begin to pull away from second place Baltimore with another win.

Green Bay at New England: Green Bay (8-5) is in danger of missing the playoffs after last weeks lackluster effort and now having to face the leagues best team without Aaron Rodgers. New England (11-2) somehow scored 36 points last week in blowing down snow against Chicago. Green Bay has a great defense which should keep this game close for three quarters. New England and Tom Brady will find a way to pull away in the final quarter and get another win.

Chicago at Minnesota: The Vikings will face the tough Bears without Tavaris Jackson and Brett Favre. Jackson was put on IR with an turf toe injury and Favre is still out with shoulder pain. Minnesota (5-8) will start rookie Joe Webb against the Bears here. Chicago (9-4) struggled last week versus the Patriots. They will be able to put pressure on Webb who is not Tom Brady. Webb and Minnesota doesn't have a chance here. The Bears win with a solid running game and enough Jay Cutler. Game will be played in the snow outside at the University of Minnesota.

The Panthers are my favorite team, but their run defense is a joke. Tim Hightower will do what he did to Denver. The Panthers will get pounded. The difference is that the Cardinals have Darnell Dockett, who has been terrific this year. It will be close, but I think Hightower annihilates Tank Tyler and Louis Leonard.
