NFL Games on Oct. 2nd Preview
September 30th 2011 23:18
Detroit at Dallas: Both teams are coming off big come-from-behind victories last week. Detroit came back from 20 behind to defeat Minnesota, and Dallas rallied to knock off Washington. Key to this game is how Tony Romo and the Dallas offense react to Detroit's great pass rush. Think the Lions with a healthy Matthew Stafford and Ndamokong Suh, win a close game.
Carolina at Chicago: The Panthers passing offense is one of the best in the league with rookie Cam Newton. Chicago has a weak passing defense, making this game interesting. If Jay Cutler can get protection, the Bears win easily, but this has been hard to find this year. Chicago wins but the game will be closer then many think.
Buffalo at Cincinnati: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Buffalo are another unbeaten squad. They are coming off a huge win over New England. Thus a letdown can be expected here versus the Bengals. I just don't think the Bengals are going to be able to take advantage of this. Andy Dalton is putting up great numbers though for the Bengals. Expect a high scoring game, but Buffalo pulling another out.
Tennessee at Cleveland: Two surprising 2-1 teams face off here. I thought the Browns were a team to watch and after three games they are finding ways to win. Colt McCoy has been very efficient on the field. Peyton Hillis is getting the job done on the ground. Tennessee's offense will take a hit losing Kenny Britt. Can Chris Johnson finally begin to do something? I'm taking the Titans in a close one.
Minnesota at Kansas City: The dud of the week, may be interesting to see who earns their first win. Which team will get off the schnive and win a game? Two teams who had playoff aspirations are 0-3, and duking it out. Matt Cassel is 7-2 as a starter at Arrowhead. Adrian Peterson gets some carries, but not enough as the Chiefs find a way to win.
Washington at St. Louis: The Rams are winless on the season, and Washington has two wins. Maybe before the year, you would think just the opposite with this game, as the Redskins were expected by many to win only three on the year. Rex Grossman has been a bright spot, but his line as shown by last week's game is susceptible to give up sacks to the quarterback. St. Louis has a good defense led by Chris Long. The Rams welcome back Steven Jackson and get the win.
New Orleans at Jacksonville: New Orleans is right up there with Green Bay as the top teams in the league after three weeks. Jacksonville, on the other hand I am surprised they got a win. They are bad. Blaine Gabbart did show some promise last week in his first start in the league as a quarterback. New Orleans rolls with Drew Brees throwing for over 300 yards.
Pittsburgh at Houston: One of the better games of the week. This one will turn out to be a defensive showdown as the Texans have a much improved version led by new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Ben Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh are the leagues worst with 9 turnover margin. The Steelers will win here, as they begin to win the turnover differential margin.
San Francisco at Philadelphia: Jim Harbaugh's 49ers are more of a defensive team then an offensive squad. Philadelphia is due for a good offensive game. This is a match-up of strengths. Look for the Eagles to win, and Michael Vick to play the whole game.
NY Giants at Arizona: Eli Manning is coming off a four touchdown passing performance. Arizona on the other hand, couldn't capitalize on Seattle's mistakes to win. The Giants continue their winning ways here, knocking off the Cardinals.
Atlanta at Seattle: Seattle got their first win of the year, barely over Arizona. Atlanta fell in a tough outing to Tampa Bay. The Falcons and Matt Ryan who is enduring a bit of a struggle thus far on the year, get back on the right track thanks to a terrible Seahawks team, winning here.
Miami at San Diego: The Dolphins are another of those teams searching for a win. Where is Reggie Bush when you need him? He has yet to make an impact as a Dolphin. Phillip Rivers is struggling as well this year for the Chargers. Look for another close game, but the Chargers winning as they have the better talent of the two.
New England at Oakland: One of the games of the week. An interesting Raiders team who feature one of the best running backs in the league in Darren McFadden and a new Tom Brady who got a haircut for New England. Both teams will score over 30 points, but New England will come out on top in a thriller.
Denver at Green Bay: The Packers do not endure much competition from Denver here. Aaron Rodgers goes wild as Green Bay gets an easy win.
NY Jets at Baltimore: Another game featuring two very defensively minded teams is on Sunday night. Baltimore will need to feature a steady diet of Ray Rice as the Jets have shown they struggle in stopping the run. Matt Sanchez will turn the ball over, at least two times and Baltimore gets the win.
Indianapolis at Tampa Bay: Indianapolis needs Kerry Collins back, sooner then later. Matt Painter is terrible. Tampa Bay with an opportunistic defense and young offense roll here on Monday night.
