NFL Games on Oct. 23 Preview
October 21st 2011 23:11
San Diego at NY Jets: One of the best games of the week features an interesting storyline. Two former Chargers get to try and take some revenge here. Antonio Cromartie, and LaDainlian Tomlinson both enjoyed some good years with the Chargers, now they are Jets. The Jets found a way to beat Miami last week, while the Chargers had the week off. Ryan Matthews will be a big key for the Chargers, if he can go over 100 yards on the ground then San Diego wins, if not the Jets take it. I think he will, giving the Chargers the nod.
Chicago at Tampa Bay: A tough game to call as they are playing on a neutral field in London. Neither team has much of an advantage on the other. Tampa Bay without a legitimate running back will struggle as LeGarrette Blount is out. This will put more pressure on Josh Freeman. Chicago has a weak passing defense, so this will keep the game close. Can Jay Cutler and his offensive line keep him out of trouble? Going with the Bears in a tight contest.
Washington at Carolina: Cam Newton is putting up great numbers for the Panthers. He will get over 300 yards once again versus the Redskins. John Beck takes over behind the center for the Redskins, don't think he will fare much better then Rex Grossman has this year. The team is still 3-2 even with shoddy quarterback play. Carolina gets their second win of the year here.
Atlanta at Detroit: The Lions are coming off their first loss of the year last week against the 49ers. Atlanta can put points up but their defense hasn't shown the ability to stop an offense for any length of time. Matt Ryan will play well, but Detroit gets the win.
Seattle at Cleveland: This game will help clear matters up as both teams have a 2-3 mark. Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgreen gets an opportunity for some pay-back as the President of the Browns. The Seahawks defense is weak, their offense is not much better. They are winning with luck. Cleveland is a little better right now as they get the win here.
Denver at Miami: Tim Tebow will run wild here as the Broncos get a win. Miami needs help. . Reggie Bush where are you? Miami needs a strong running game, they haven't yet to get much from Bush. Daniel Thomas has been bothered by a leg injury, though he will likely play. Broncos win.
Houston at Tennessee: Another game of two closely matched teams. The two teams are fighting for the AFC South first place. Right now the Titans hold a slim half-game lead. Matt Hasselbeck is having a good season so far, Chris Johnson has yet to show up for the Titans ground game. The Texans have one of the leagues better defenses and a good offense as well. The team has went through some tough outings the past couple of weeks. Tennessee will not be any easier. Houston gets the win, in a tight battle.
Kansas City at Oakland: The Raiders haven't yet decided on a starting quarterback, contrary to the belief they have named newly acquired quarterback Carson Palmer the starter. Kyle Boller still may start. Kansas City with Matt Cassel have yet to really play a good game all the way around. The Raiders are the more complete team, they will win here.
Pittsburgh at Arizona: A rematch of Super Bowl XLIII, with two very different teams now. Pittsburgh is still amongst the leagues best while the Cardinals are around the bottom feeders. Kevin Kolb has yet to catch on with the Cardinals offense. Ben Roesthilsberger and the Steelers roll. Their defense will slow down anything Arizona wants to do on the field.
Green Bay at Minnesota: Dud game number one. Three more to follow. Eight teams going in very opposite directions. Green Bay stays unbeaten, handing Minnesota another loss. Christian Ponder installs some life into the Vikings offense, not enough to win.
St. Louis at Dallas: The Rams are 14 point underdogs to a 2-3 Dallas team? Hard to figure that out, but the Cowboys will win the game. St. Louis finally has a decent receiver in Brandon Lloyd but it won't do them any good here.
Indianapolis at New Orleans: The Saints have the perfect opponent to get back on track against as the Colts are still searching for a win. Head coach Sean Peyton will find a way to get quarterback Drew Brees enough good plays as the Saints roll with the win.
Baltimore at Jacksonville: The Ravens will bring the rush against rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert here. This game has the makings of a very one-sided affair as Baltimore will run over the Jaguars. Joe Flacco and Ray Rice form a great one-two punch in the win.
