NFL Games on Oct. 16th preview

October 14th 2011 23:49
San Francisco at Detroit: The game of the week? Yes indeed, two teams combining for a 9-1 record, just the exact opposite of last seasons, 1-9 at this point. Detroit continues to find ways to win, either from their defense or offense. Matthew Stafford is showing why the team picked him with the top pick, and Calvin Johnson is doing the same, though he was chosen third. San Francisco is getting great play out of Alex Smith at the quarterback spot. Don't see the Lions losing here.

St. Louis at Green Bay: Can the Rams get their first win against a the Packers who are yet to see a loss? Don't think so! Aaron Rodgers has been on a tear this season, something the Rams were hoping from Sam Bradford but have yet to see in his second season in the league. The Packers are too strong too lose here.

Carolina at Atlanta: A key NFC South division matchup between two teams searching to stay alive. Atlanta is 2-3 and Carolina has a 1-4 mark on the year. Cam Newton is doing all he can do for the Panthers, and the team has gotten close a couple of times to winning, but circumstances have happened keeping the win from happening. Atlanta will find a way to win here. Carolina, keeps the game close but the Falcons win.

Indianapolis at Cincinnati: A possible trap game for the Bengals and those picking the games. This Colts team has been on the verge for weeks of gaining that first win, just hasn't happened yet. Cincinnati at 3-2 on the season is heavy favorites, yet I had reservations about picking them. The Bengals defense will win this game for them.

Buffalo at NY Giants: The Giants losing to Seattle at home last week was a definite eye-opener. Buffalo continues to find ways to win either with their defense or offense. Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bills will win once again, as Eli Manning and the Giants falter to 3-3.

Jacksonville at Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh wins. Time to get rid of Jack Del Rio. Jacksonville needs help.

Philadelphia at Washington: Another game I wrestled with. The Eagles are searching to get this season on track after struggling throughout their first five games, while Washington is a surprise at 3-1. The Redskins will win here, as they are more solid at this point. Hard to believe, but the Redskins are back.

Houston at Baltimore: The Texans are coming off a tough loss to Oakland last week. Quarterback Matt Schaub instead of trying and taking the football in for a touchdown in the waning moments of the game, decided to loft the ball up, and it was easily intercepted. The Texans will keep this game close, but I see the Ravens gaining the win as their defense proves valuable.

Cleveland at Oakland: Oakland will honor the memory of former owner Al Davis in this game. Look for the excitement of this to once again drive the Raiders to getting the win. Hard to get what is happening at Cleveland thus far. They have been very streaky, and one moment look good, next bad. Colt McCoy is the future though and he will get this team going soon.

Dallas at New England: What Cowboys team will show up? This is the question that keeps getting posted all over the internet in reference to this game. Doesn't matter though as the Patriots are the better team on both sides of the ball. The Cowboys will keep it somewhat close for a while, but New England and Tom Brady are too solid on offense.

New Orleans at Tampa Bay: Wow. What a tough loss the Buccaneers had last week against the 49ers, 48-3. They are too good of a team not to let this bother them. Josh Freeman is a very talented quarterback. The team has talent on both sides of the ball, and will keep this game close with the Saints. Drew Brees will find a way to get the Saints a win, but it will be close.

Minnesota at Chicago: The Vikings are coming off a very dominating performance against the Cardinals. The Cardinals, who are proving to be one of the worst teams in the league this year. Chicago if they can ever figure out how to block for Jay Cutler will be one of the better teams. Matt Forte versus Adrian Peterson, two of the better running backs in the league. Forte wins the battle and the Bears win the game.

Miami at NY Jets: The Jets roll here. Miami and Brandon Marshall are trying their best to stir up controversy before the game, but no way do the Dolphins stand a chance. The Jets get back on track here.
Alex Smith looks to hand Detroit their first loss on the year
