NFL Awards Week 9- Midseason awards
November 9th 2011 05:12
MVP: Aaron Rodgers Green Bay. Without him the Packers are not undefeated at 8-0 right now. Has a quarterback rating of 129.1 and 2,619 passing yards thus far on the year.
Best Offensive Player: Drew Brees New Orleans. Sure he has some of the best offensive weapons of all in the league but Brees is putting up some great numbers. Over 3,000 yards passing already and a quarterback rating over 100. The Saints are 6-3 on the year in large part to Brees.
Top Defensive Player: Darrelle Revis New York Jets. Has the rest of the team believing once again that the Jets can win it all. Four interceptions and 25 tackles on the year but he does so much more on the field.
Rookie of the Year: Cam Newton Carolina. Running away with the award, already nearly 2,400 passing yards. Has 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Can run the ball if needed, instantly made Carolina better.
Coach of the Year: Jim Harbaugh San Francisco. Has the 49ers on top of one of the weakest divisions in the league, but has Alex Smith thinking he is the best quarterback in the league. Quite an accomplishment.
Best Team: Green Bay. After beating San Diego this past week, the next test comes on Thanksgiving versus Detroit.
Most Disapointing Team and Surprising Team: Indianapolis at 0-9 is the team which leaves something to be desired. Just losing Peyton Manning and this team is all of a sudden one of the worst? Crazy. Most surprising is Buffalo. Who would of thought this team can top New England and be 5-3 this far in the season? Close behind are San Francisco, Detroit, and Cincinnati.
Undefeated and Winless Teams: Indianapolis hosts Jacksonville in a very winnable game and Green Bay hosts Minnesota in the Monday night game.
Look ahead to next week: All 32 teams are in action. San Diego hosts Oakland in the start of Thursday night football action on NFL Network. Pittsburgh at 6-3 travels to Cincinnati. NY Giants at San Francisco. Detroit at Chicago. New Orleans at Atlanta. Buffalo at Dallas and the Patriots travel to New York to face the Jets.
Thursday night game pick: Neither team has been playing very well. The Oakland Raiders are 4-4 and are experiencing some growing pains with Carson Palmer at the helm. San Diego is having issues with Philip Rivers, yet he almost brought the team back this past weekend versus Green Bay. The Chargers win here and add more dismay to the Raiders. Using the momentum they gained from last week's game the Chargers's offense will go without a turnover here.
