NCAA Final Game Tidbits
April 4th 2011 03:51
At least one Big East team made the NCAA tournament final. 11 teams advanced to the tournament, were part of the 68 teams invited, and just one made it to the Elite 8. Connecticut, proved themselves winning five straight games in five nights to win the Big East tournament final, now they continue to win. The Connecticut woment are in a dogfight right now with Notre Dame in the womens final four. Stanford lost in the other semifinal to Texas A&M. I will preview the women's final tomorrow on my other blog www.orble.com/sportsworld. Wouldn't that be odd for the Connecticut men's team to make the final, but not the women's?
Butler beat VCU soundly on Saturday. They beat the Rams, the same way Butler has been winning tournament games. Solid defense, great shooting, free throw shooting, and not turning over the ball. Butler is not going to defeat themselves, you have to work hard just to beat them. VCU had a great run, was nice seeing them beat Kansas, but they had no chance to win against Butler.
John Calipari has four new McDonalds All-Americans coming in next year, to make up for losing guys from his final-four team. Brandon Knight is probably going to the NBA Draft. Would be nice if Terrance Jones stayed in school as they guy needs more seasoning. Doron Lamb also needs to stay in school, add some muscle. Knight is ready for the NBA though.
VCU has a couple of guys who are NBA ready in Jamie Skeen, and Joey Rodrigeuz. Skeen was an one-man team versus Butler, keeping the Rams in the game with 27 points. He does need to work on his free throws, going 4-7. Matt Howard went 11-12 from the free throw line, knocking down huge attempts down the stretch.
A riot happened Saturday night after the Rams lost in Richmond, Virginia. Thousands of fans stormed the streets of Richmond, near the college campus, acting like they won the title. Bet the Richmond or Virginia police never expected this from little VCU. Nice to see.
This years final four earned the highest ratings since 2005, earning a 8.9 rating and 17 share. Having four teams not expected to still be playing made for an unusual final four which brought in fans. This final four was up nine percent from last years, adding good news to the network and sport. The first game on Saturday earned 14.7 million viewers, while the nightcap brought in 16.5 million people.
Butler versus Connecticut, a great game for those who love the madness! I am pulling for the Butler Bulldogs to cut down the nets, Monday night around 9 p.m. pacific time. This will be a sight to see.
