NBA takes over New Orleans Hornets
December 7th 2010 00:39
The National Basketball Association (NBA) commissioner David Stern confirmed on Monday that the league will buy the New Orleans Hornets. Majority owner George Shinn had been trying to sell the team to minority owner Gary Chouest but the talks have failed. Now the NBA has jumped in to save the franchise. Stern is appointing Jac Sperling to run the team until a more permanent owner is in place. Sperling is an sports attorney and vice chairman of the NHL's Minnesota Wild.
The NBA Board of Governors will vote on the matter next week. Don't see the Board differing from the commissoner here.
The NBA has valued the Hornets franchise in the excess of $300 million. The Hornets are 13-7 on the season. New coach Monty Williams had the team 11-1 before the teams recent slide.
