October 24th 2010 23:03
The games begin October 26th with Miami at Boston kicking off the action. Here is the Western Confernce.
Southwest:
San Antonio: The league's toughest division with the Spurs, Rockets, and Mavericks will again be a photo finish at the end. Am picking the Spurs as forward Tim Duncan, and point guard Tony Parker have something to prove. Adding center Tiago Splitter from Spain helps.
Dallas: Dirk Nowitzki returns to anchor the Mavericks which will struggle at times with an aging Jason Kidd running the offense. Signing Tyson Chandler is a huge plus which will help the interior game out.
Houston: Yao Ming is ready to attempt this game out again. After losing the center for the entire season, the Rockets vow to only play him 24 minutes a game. Brad Miller will be asked to play the other half. A third place finish and a first round matchup with the Lakers awaits.
Memphis: The Grizzlies re-signed Rudy Gay to a big contract in the off season, annoiting him their star player. Now we will see if he reacts positively to this. Another 40 win season awaits.
New Orleans: Chris Paul demands a trade at the mid-season mark, and the team finally deals him. The Hornets are an average team in the leagues best division which hurts. Adding Jerryd Bayless adds depth to the team.
Northwest:
Portland: The Blazers finally get some positive play out of Greg Oden this year after Christmas. Owner Paul Allen is thankful for keeping him, as the team wins the division thanks to newcomer Wesley Matthews making star Brandon Roy better.
Oklahoma City: Kevin Durant led the league in scoring last season and will again be the favorite this year. The Thunder improves with the addition of Cole Aldrich in the middle. Will be another year before an NBA finals appearance awaits.
Utah: The Jazz will be strong like usual with Deron Williams and coach Jerry Sloan leading the way. Losing Carlos Boozer, and Wesley Matthews will hurt the team however.
Denver: What are the Nuggets going to do with forward Carmelo Anthony? they need to trade him as he no longer wants to be a Nugget. Look for a trade before mid-season and the team to struggle all year.
Minnesota: The Timberwolves improved over the off season with adding forward Micheal Beasley and guard Wesley Johnson. Triumphing last seasons win total of 15 comes easy as Minnesota goes for 22 this year.
Pacific:
Los Angeles Lakers: Two years straight, make it three in a row as the Lakers win the NBA title yet again. Its coach Phil Jackson and guard Kobe Bryants swan song as the coach retires and the guard goes to New York in the off season to compete with the Heat.
Phoenix: Pesky Steve Nash will keep this team around the playoffs for the season, finally either grabbing the seventh or eighth spot, but will get swept in the first round. Losing Amare Stoudemire is too big of a blow for Phoenix to recover from.
Los Angeles Clippers: A year away from making the playoffs, the Clippers jump back into the thick of things with rookie and last years top pick Blake Griffin leading the way. After missing all of his rookie season, Griffin returns as a rookie again per NBA rules. Teaming with guard Baron Davis, the Clippers surprise.
Sacramento: The NBA's youngest team will win a few they shouldn't during the season but will be hard pressed to win 30 games. Guard Tyreke Evans competes with Kevin Durant for the scoring title.
Golden State: Adding David Lee will help, but the Warriors gave up too much for him. New coach Keith Smart lasts one season before he resigns. Guard Stephon Curry continues to amaze with his court awareness and savvy.
