NBA Postpones Training Camp, Cancels Preseason
September 23rd 2011 22:15
So it has begun, the cancellations of NBA team activities. All 43 of the preseason games were cancelled and training camps are postponed.
This has happened once before, back in 1998 when the league had just 50 games due to work stoppage. The two sides remain very far apart, making any regular season action in trouble.
The two sides met on Thursday, and the players were offered a 46 percent share of revenue. Right now they have 57 percent, and they countered with a 53 percent share offer. The owners had wanted a hard cap, but now say they can figure out something else to solve this issue.
In other NBA news, Kobe Bryant was offered a contract to play in Italy. Virtus Bologna offered Bryant a $6.7 million deal to play one season of basketball. The team also offered Bryant a one-month or two-month option in case the NBA gets their act together in this labor issue. Bolgona opens their season on Oct. 9th.
