NBA Playoff Notes: 5/19

Oklahoma City just held off a furious late rally by Dallas to beat the home-team, 106-100. Dirk Nowitzki's amazing streak of hitting consectutive free-throws ended at 32 dating back to game one as he missed the second of a late three-shot foul line trip. Nowitzki cooled down a tad from a fiery game one output, netting 29 points in game two. Kevin Durant scored 24 to lead the Thunder, and Russell Westbrook added 18 points. One interesting sidenote was head coach Scott Brooks leaving backup-point guard Eric Maynor out on the court in the final minutes of the game, and having Westbrook on the bench. Since the Thunder won the game, Westbrook may not feel too slighted, had they lost this would be a different story.
Oklahoma City's bench was huge in the win, with James Harden sporting a full fledged beard scoring 23 points. Maynor added 13 while only committing two turnovers in 26 minutes. Westbrook played 28 minutes, and had four turnovers. The Thunder shot 55% for the game, while Dallas hit 43% of their field goals. Game three is scheduled for Saturday. Look here tomorrow for a breakdown of this game.
Nice to see Udonis Haslem come back from being out for most of the season, to be a huge contributor in game two of the Eastern Conference Finals series. I expect the Bulls to win the series in six or seven, but it was nice to see a guy who has been a member of the Heat for years to explode like he did. Haslem scored 13 points for the Heat, outscoring Chris Bosh by three. Lebron James took over the game in the final minutes scoring nine of his 29 points in the final 4:27. It seemed both teams were deadlocked at 73 for some time in the fourth quarter, then out of nowhere James drained a three-pointer beginning this barrage of points. The Heat of course, went onto win 85-75.
The teams combined for 24 points in the fourth quarter with Miami scoring 14 and Chicago 10. Miami was locked at 73 points from the 9:29 mark when Haslem slammed down a dunk, and didn't score again until 4:28 left in the game. The Bulls reached the 73-point mark after a Taj Gibson dunk at the 7:19 mark. They didn't score again until another Gibson basket with 2:29 left. Chicago for the game shot only 34% from the field, including 16-26 from the free-throw line. NBA league MVP Derrick Rose shot only 7-23 for the game, scoring 21 points. Game three is on Sunday. Get ready for another low-scoring battle much the opposite of the Western Conference Finals. Fans of both styles of games are getting what they asked for in these conference finals.
