NBA Player Awards
April 14th 2011 01:08
Here with the final games of the regular season in progress is the first annual NBA Geek player awards.
MVP: Derrick Rose. He's everyone's favorite pick for this award. Hard to find someone more worthy as he is the main reason why the Bulls are fighting it out with San Antonio for the best record in the NBA. Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah have all had injuries this year, Rose however has played all but one of the 82 games. He is seventh in the league in scoring with 25 points per game for the 61, maybe 62 win Bulls. Rose is the MVP.
Sixth Man: Lamar Odom. Odom does so much for the Lakers, keeping them afloat. Odom averages 14 points, nine rebounds per game for the Lakers who are once again the favorites to win it all. They struggled a little down the stretch, but are going to be hard to defeat.
Rookie of the Year: Blake Griffin. Another slam dunk award with Griffin easily winning the award. He is a canidate for the third team All-NBA. Griffin has burst upon the scene, leading the Clippers back into the spotlight. He averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds for the Clippers who just passed the 30-win plateu.
Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard. Howard's changes what opposing teams do. His abilty to influence games is huge for the Magic. Howard averages nearly three blocks per game, though he does so much more for the team.
Coach of the Year: Tom Thibodeau. Chicago has the league's best player, and the best coach this year. Thibodeau's made the Bulls the best defensive team in the league. He made Rose more of an complete player. The Bulls were good last year, but Thibodeau has made them great.
Most Improved Player of the Year: Kevin Love. Wanted to make a case for LaMarcus Aldridge of Portland, but Love's increase in number's triumphs all others. Aldridge was good last year, but Love wasn't so much. Of course, Love finally got more playing time, and Minnesota doesn't have much else. Though an increase of more then six points per game, and four rebounds per game can't go ignored. Plus the streak of double-double's makes Love the most improved player.
All-NBA Team:
PG- Derrick Rose
SG- Kobe Bryant
SF- Lebron James-wanted to make a case for Durant here, but James does more then score.
PF-Dirk Nowitski
C-Dwight Howard
All-NBA Second Team:
PG-Russell Westbrook
SG- Dwayne Wade
SF-Kevin Durant
PF-Pau Gasol
C-Amare Stoudemire
All-NBA Third Team:
PG-Tony Parker
SG-Manu Ginoboli
SF-Carmelo Anthony
PF-Zach Randolph-tough call over Griffin, and Love. Randolph is heading to the playoffs at least.
C-LaMarcus Aldridge
