NBA News: Training Camps and Free Agency Starts

December 10th 2011 02:44
Brandon Roy retires: Brandon Roy has decided to retire from the NBA. The Blazers guard cited knee problems as motive for calling it quits from the league. Roy was told from a team doctor, if he didn't retire and kept playing then some day soon he wouldn't be able to walk. Roy's retirement came as a shock to everyone around the league. Roy was a three-time all-star and averaged 19 points, five assists, and four rebounds in the league.

Tyson Chandler a Knick: Former Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler has confirmed that he will sign with the New York Knicks and join Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire on a stacked front-line. Golden State and Houston both courted the center who jumped straight from high school, but in the end, a chance to play with the two stars won out. Chandler's deal was reportedly for four seasons and worth $58 million. Last season, Chandler averaged ten points and nine rebounds for the Mavericks.

Orlando moves: The Orlando Magic have waived Gilbert Arenas and traded Brandon Bass to Boston for Glen Davis. The amnesty clause was used in getting rid of Arenas who had three seasons left on his contract worth $62 million dollars. Arenas since being traded to the Magic from Washington, averaged career lows in points and minutes. Bass is in his seventh season out of LSU. He averaged 12 points and five rebounds last year for the Magic. Davis, is also from LSU and averaged 12 points and six rebounds last year.

Vince Carter a Maverick?: Vince Carter, fresh off getting waived by Phoenix is in talks with Dallas about signing a deal to play for the reigning NBA champs. The Mavericks hoped to have a deal in place by Saturday for Carter. Last year, Carter only played in 51 games and averaged 14 points.

Oden deal restructured: The Portland Trailblazers signed center Greg Oden to a one year deal yesterday worth $8.9 million dollars. Word out of camp today is that Oden won't likely play in the upcoming season. Oden's rehabilitation to his left knee hit some sort of a snag, causing this new restructuring in the deal. Terms were not disclosed, but it is believed Oden, will miss another season. He has only played in 82 games since being drafted number one four seasons ago.
