NBA News: Trade rumblings and other talk
December 2nd 2011 00:46
Chris Paul: Paul's agent told the New Orleans Hornets management how he wants to be traded to New York and won't sign any extension. New Orleans general manager Dell Demps wants to hear this from Paul though. Earlier this week, Paul told Boston he wouldn't sign any extension with them if they did trade Rajon Rondo in exchange for his services. Now Paul, has made his demands.
Celtics want to keep Rondo: All of a sudden Boston general manager Danny Ainge has backed off this so called trade talk and says the Celtics want to keep Rondo. Ainge says he doesn't know where these rumors came from. He wants to keep the core together of Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.
Amnesty clause: Three likely players may soon get cut as a result of the new amnesty clause. Mike Miller at Miami, Gilbert Arenas at Orlando and Brandon Roy here in Portland. Teams can waive one player at any point of the season, those who were under contract before July 1st. Roy after signing a max deal with Portland has struggled to live up to the deal because of two bad knees. His contract runs through 2014, and he is set to make over $50 million yet. Roy showed just how good he could be in last season's game two playoff win over Dallas, but he hasn't shown this at all times. Now the Blazers will likely cut him right before the season begins.
Williams doesn't want to stay: Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets doesn't want to sign a long term deal with the Nets. Those familiar with the situation knew it was going to happen. By opting out of his current deal, Williams could make up to $30 million more dollars and could still sign with the Nets. Williams returned to the States on Wednesday after leaving Turkey where he played during the lockout.
