The Charlotte Bobcats hired former Portland Trailblazers general manager Rich Cho to be the teams new GM. Cho was only with the Blazers for 10 months before being fired. He is widely respected in the league and will work with majority owner Michael Jordan on building the Bobcats.
Samuel Dalembert is being viewed by the Miami Heat as a new center prospect. Dalembert would be a huge upgrade over the Heat's current center regime headed by Joel Anthony and Zydrunas Ilgauskas who is rumored to be on the verge of retiring. Standing at 6 ft. 11 in. Dalembert averages eight points and eight rebounds for his career thus far.
Orlando center Dwight Howard is ready to become a free agent if Orlando doesn't win the NBA title next year. Howard won't resign with the Magic, he wants to see if the team will make the changes needed to be championship worthy. The Magic better get their act going or they will miss out.
One major trade which has been on the table, but cooled down over the week is between Golden State and Philadelphia. The Warriors would send Monta Ellis to Philadelphia for Andre Iguodala. More teams began showing interest in Ellis once the rumors heated up. Portland, the LA Lakers, and Charlotte to name a few. One thing for certain, Golden State is ready to move Ellis in order to improve their overall roster. Iguodala has also made it be known how he no longer wants to be at Philadelphia. Both guys should be moved before next year.
Portland has until June 30th to offer center Greg Oden a contract or he will become unrestricted and can sign elsewhere. The move is expected to be in the range of $ 8.8 million for one year. Oden who has only played 82 NBA games since being drafted number one by Portland three seasons ago, will get one more chance with the Blazers.
The Detroit Pistons want to interview Dallas Assistant coach Dwayne Casey for the vacant head coaching position. Casey is the architect of Dallas's vaunted zone defense which slowed Miami during the NBA Finals. Detroit is also interested in Mike Woodson, and Kelvin Sampson.
Tyson Chandler and J.J. Barea are the Dallas Mavericks top priorities for the off-season. Both guys had great NBA Finals and are free agents. Chandler asserted himself as a defensive and rebounding monster while the pesky Barea has a motor which never stops.
